Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Head Women's Wrestling Coach. The Head Wrestling Coach provides direction and leadership for the Women's Viking Wrestling team. Reporting to the Athletic Director, the successful candidate will teach wrestling skills at the collegiate level, hire qualified coaches to assist in the development of student athletes, develop, manage, and assess budgets and equipment adhering to BBCC athletic policies, and ensure academic and athletic eligibility of all Wrestling student athletes.

In collaboration with the Department of Athletics and student-athletes, the head coach is also responsible for fundraising for the men’s basketball program. This position requires strong planning and organizational skills as well as effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to create and maintain positive relationships with athletes, other coaches, and college staff.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Provide administration, leadership, and direction for the intercollegiate wrestling program.
  • Teach individual wrestling skills and strategies; build, develop, and evaluate teamwork; develop and enforce training rules.
  • Monitor and support the academic performance, leadership, and progress of student athletes with an emphasis on retaining student athletes throughout the year.
  • Scout and recruit student athletes who are qualified both academically and athletically for intercollegiate competition.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain positive relationships and effective communication with local area club wrestling and high school wrestling coaches and programs.
  • Conduct intercollegiate programs in accordance with NWAC and college rules and regulations.
  • In collaboration with the Athletic Director, work cooperatively with the Athletics Department and Student Activities student leaders and staff. Develop collaborative and collegial relationships with the other coaches, student leaders and staff in the department and throughout the campus community.
  • Fully participate in athletics activities including departmental meetings, outreach and fundraising events, and other relevant functions as needed and requested.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate practice and match/tournament schedules. Schedule all team travel arrangements.
  • Report team scores to the NWAC office after all home matches and for any away contests in which the opponent is not an NWAC member. Compile and analyze sport season statistics.
  • Work closely with the college communications and marketing staff to develop website/media/promotional materials for wrestling.
  • Organize fundraising activities in order to enhance and develop athletic programs.
  • Coordinate and oversee summer camps and clinics.
  • Inventory and track assigned athletic equipment. Maintain and improve existing faculty, including general preparation and maintenance.
  • Work closely with Activity Center Coordinator to staff home matches/tournaments.
  • Understand and comply with the policies and procedures of the college.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by Athletics Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates degree from a regionally accredited institution OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Wrestling and/or coaching experience.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification (or will obtain if selected).
  • Valid unrestricted Washington state driver's license.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Coaching and/or wrestling experience at the collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated supervisory & management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage a program.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with faculty, students, and staff within a campus community; and the ability to foster positive resolutions when conflicts occur.
  • Teaching and teambuilding, related to student athletes.
  • Experience managing budgets and coordinating schedules.
  • Academic advising, particularly when working with student athletes.
  • Program fundraising and development.
  • Ability to us a personal computer, Microsoft Office products, and database programs.
  • Familiarity with the policies, regulations, and objectives of the athletic codes of NWAC.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.

COMPENSATION:

This is a part-time position with an annual (July 1-June 30) stipend starting at $10,000. The salary will be pro-rated based upon the start date and remainder of the fiscal year. Additional campus employment may be available based upon qualifications and interest. This position is not benefit-eligible and is exempt from overtime.
