THE POSITION:
Gavilan College is seeking a dynamic and equity-minded Head Women’s Soccer Coach to lead, develop, and oversee the women’s soccer program. This Professional Expert assignment is responsible for student-athlete recruitment, program administration, practice and competition oversight, and fostering the academic success, personal development, and well-being of student-athletes.

The Head Coach serves as a key representative of Gavilan College Athletics and is expected to uphold the mission, values, and compliance standards of the College, the Coast Conference, and the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A).

Assignments are based on programmatic need and may vary by season.

Program Leadership & Coaching

  • Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices and competitions
  • Coach and develop student-athletes in skill acquisition, strategy, and sportsmanship
  • Supervise assistant coaches and support staff, as assigned

Recruitment & Retention

  • Actively recruit and retain student-athletes in compliance with 3C2A and College policies
  • Support student-athletes through eligibility, academic progress, and retention

Student-Athlete Support

  • Promote academic success, personal growth, and leadership development
  • Refer student-athletes to appropriate campus resources and support services
  • Foster a team environment that prioritizes health, safety, and well-being

Program Administration

  • Maintain compliance with all conference, state, and institutional regulations
  • Assist with scheduling, travel coordination, equipment inventory, and budget awareness
  • Submit required reports, rosters, and documentation in a timely manner

Professional & Institutional Engagement

  • Represent Gavilan College positively at competitions, meetings, and community events
  • Work collaboratively within the Athletics and Kinesiology Department
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of soccer fundamentals, strategies, and coaching techniques
  • Previous coaching experience at the high school, club, collegiate, or equivalent level
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours during the season
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


ILLUSTRATIVE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A typical way to obtain the above knowledge and skill is a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience; or any associate degree and six years of professional experience. The professional experience required must be directly related to the assignment.ORMaster's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education; OR Bachelors' degree in any of the above AND master's degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education recreation administration or physical therapy; OR the equivalent ispreferred.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Collegiate coaching and/or playing experience
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Knowledge of 3C2A rules and regulations
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
