Head of Operations - Reich Construction

Spyglass Ops
Glenwood, MD

WHO WE ARE

Reich Construction is a commercial construction company specializing in pre-engineered steel buildings, metal building erection, and design-build projects. We build structures that matter — delivering complex, high-value commercial contracts with precision, accountability, and craftsmanship.

We are in an exciting and deliberate growth phase, transitioning away from high-volume, low-margin work and focusing entirely on high-margin design-build contracts in the $2 million to $10 million range. This is not a company coasting — this is a company on the move.

Our Core Values are:

  • Team First: We take ownership beyond the boundaries of our job description. When something is at risk — for our team, our clients, or our projects — we step in, step up, and solve it. No finger-pointing, no scope creep excuses. We win together.
  • Customer Story: Our reputation is built one client experience at a time. We treat every project as a reflection of who we are, and we measure our success by the stories our customers tell about us when we're not in the room.
  • Full Cycle Accountability: We see things through from start to finish. We don't hand off problems — we own them. Every project, every commitment, every promise gets seen through to completion.
  • Communication That Connects: We communicate with clarity, intention, and humility. We look inward first — asking how we can communicate better rather than why others aren't understanding. Great communication isn't just talking, it's reaching people.
  • Always Improving: We don't accept "good enough." We bring creativity and adaptability to every challenge, and we're constantly looking for a better way — for our team, our clients, and ourselves.

If our culture and mission does not resonate with you, please do not bother applying.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Reich Construction team is looking for a results-driven and detail-oriented Head of Operations, with a proven track record working in commercial construction and design-build environments. The Head of Operations is responsible for optimizing the team's day-to-day execution across all field and office operations. They design and implement company infrastructure and processes to boost productivity and efficiency, while reducing friction and eliminating operational fires before they start.

The Head of Operations' goal is to make the company operate as smoothly and efficiently as possible. They lead major company initiatives and projects, and hold the team accountable to completing them. The application code word is EMPOWER. The Head of Operations is a highly skilled strategic thinker. They anticipate and solve problems in a self-directed way. They empower and build a team around them to move fast while maintaining culture and quality.

Construction does not run on a 9-to-5 schedule — and neither does this role. Field crews operate across multiple states, and when a problem surfaces on a job site in Chicago on a Sunday afternoon or at 4 AM on a holiday, this leader is the first call. The right candidate understands that operational leadership in construction means being available when the work demands it, not just when the calendar allows it.

This role will lead Reich Construction through a critical chapter of growth — from $6–7 million toward $20 million in revenue. The Head of Operations will be the definitive source of truth for all daily operations, permanently absorbing project management, field coordination, and personnel matters so that the Visionary can dedicate 100% of his bandwidth to high-ticket sales and architectural design.

This is a full-time W2 position based in Glenwood, Maryland. This is a critical position within the business, as such, we host a rigorous, 4-part application process.

RESPONSIBILITIES (TASKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ROLE):

  • Serve as the ultimate operational authority — the single source of truth for all daily field and office operations
  • Enforce a strict chain of command, permanently ending the culture of "answer shopping" where field crews and legacy employees bypass middle management for preferred answers
  • Protect the Visionary's time by absorbing all project minutiae, including early morning job site calls and personnel disputes
  • Empower and protect key operators by establishing hard boundaries that prevent administrative overreach into field crew scheduling and project management
  • Drive full adoption and compliance of Monday.com, Salesforce, and BuilderTrend across the organization, eliminating manual data entry and Excel-based workflows
  • Build and implement a field training system capable of onboarding and developing new crew members at scale — creating the internal knowledge infrastructure needed to triple field capacity without sacrificing quality or safety standards on complex commercial projects
  • Oversee recruitment and training to build a reliable pipeline that grows field crew capacity from 15 to 30–40 professionals
  • Collaborate with the CFO to transition company accounting off QuickBooks Cloud and onto specialized construction accounting software
  • Redesign and optimize company systems as needed to maximize project fulfillment, quality, and scalability across high-margin design-build contracts

REQUIREMENTS (EXPECTED PROFICIENCIES):

  • Direct experience in commercial construction — specifically pre-engineered steel buildings, metal building erection, or design-build projects. Residential or warehouse-only backgrounds will not be sufficient for this role.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English — this is non-negotiable. The company's field crews are 100% Latino and effective field leadership requires fluency in both languages.
  • Proven experience scaling a construction company through a $20 million growth phase, with a deep understanding of the personnel, crew management, and systems required to sustain that volume.
  • Demonstrated success taking underutilized technology stacks and mandating their adoption across an organization — specifically Monday.com, Salesforce, and BuilderTrend.
  • Operationally available beyond standard business hours — you understand that construction projects don't pause for weekends or holidays, and you take pride in being the person who answers the call and solves the problem, no matter when it comes in.
  • Immune to office politics and tenure-based pressure — you must be willing to hold the line in the face of pushback from legacy employees and administration without caving.
  • Strong manager — you are fulfilled by building and leading a team, and you take pride in your ability to hold people to high performance standards consistently and fairly.
  • Data-driven decision maker — you rely on objective data such as project margins, crew skill sets, and software KPIs rather than emotional preferences or "the way we've always done it."
  • Candid and direct communicator with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, time-management, and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter — you are comfortable managing your team and meeting deadlines without direct supervision.
  • Highly resourceful, a natural problem-solver who thrives on learning new systems and tools.

BENEFITS

  • Salary range of $130,000 to $180,000 commensurate with experience, plus bonus structure
  • Full-time W2 position based in Glenwood, Maryland
  • 7 Federal Holidays observed annually
  • 1 week of sick leave and 1 week of paid vacation following a 90-day introductory period
  • Relocation assistance available for the right candidate
  • Professional Development: This role will be supported by an external Ops program that includes Ops mentorship, community, and live coaching
  • Additional professional development opportunities available to all Reich Construction team members
