Our client, a global leader in financial technology with amazing culture, is hiring for a contract Lab Test Technician. This is an onsite position in Oakland, CA (M-F, standard hours).
In this position, you will support the company's aggressive product designs and act as a primary person responsible for testing early prototypes.
The ability to pivot quickly and accurately will be critical to success, as the workload varies from general lab tasks to test-focused tasks. The ideal candidate will demonstrate curiosity to probe into unexpected behavior from devices or test equipment. Attitude is also very important for this role.
Contract Duration: 8 Months Initially, Potential to Extend + Benefits (Medical, Dental, 401K, Holidays)
Responsibilities:
- Acquiring measurements (display, touch, wifi, audio, sensors) on specialized test equipment.
- Executing manual and automated tests on devices and electrical components.
- Facilitating repair and calibration of equipment with 3rd party equipment vendors. Supporting hardware validation through fixture assembly and 3D printing.
- Flashing, testing, and basic validation of prototype devices, development tools, etc.
- Electrical and mechanical assembly, soldering, and wiring for prototypes, development tools, etc.
- Assisting with lab space management, organization, maintenance and cleanup
- Tracking your own task list and making sure that diverse customers know how they fit into your priorities.
- Creating structured documentation to standardize workflows and operational processes.
Requirements:
- 3 years experience as a technician in a consumer electronics field
- Expertise in the hardware lab with test, measurement, and prototyping equipment
- Experience using a DMM, programmable power supply
- Ability to execute test plans with minimal supervision and imperfect procedures
- Initiative to recognize areas of improvement and take action
- Ability to prioritize and triage in a highly demanding environment
- Experience flashing firmware and executing test scripts CLI
- Strong communication, problem-solving & organization skills (device and data
- tracking)
- Electromechanical assembly/disassembly and wire harnessing skills
- Hands-on soldering experience SMT, PTH, wire-to-wire, etc.)
Preferred:
- An Associates or Bachelors degree in a technical field
- Ability to read schematics, PCB layout, and mechanical drawings
- Experience with signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DAQs.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair circuit boards
- Electrical assembly/disassembly and precision soldering
- 0201 components 01005 a plus), QFNs, BGAs, etc
- Experience with thermal tests in environmental chambers (customizing and
- running thermal profiles)
- REL testing background OMM, Instron, Drop, Tumble, Thermal, T&H chamber)
- Experience with 3D printing, machining, and specialized test equipment.
- Proficiency in machine shop skills (bandsaw, chopsaw, drill press)
- Experience with regulatory testing - including EMC, safety, etc.
- Experience with basic Windows-based networking tasks.
- Experience with mobile device testing
- Inventory management experience
- Experience with RF equipment like splitters, couplers etc.
