The Grounds Staff are responsible for the safe, professional, reliable, efficient, environmentally-sound, and cost-effective maintenance of the grounds on the Springfield College campus. The Groundskeeper is a front facing position.
Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to degrees attained, experience, and other considerations permitted by law. Comprehensive compensation details, including any additional benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.- Diagnose disease and pest conditions. Assist in planning and coordination of the chemical spray programs and schedules, including spraying landscaped areas with herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, fungicides and rodenticides. Prepare chemical mixtures in proper proportions; locate, maintain accurate pesticide-use records according to federal, state and county regulations.
- Inspects vegetation on grounds to identify parasites and diseases and proper treatment.
- Perform landscaping and turf, garden, tree maintenance as part of the Grounds Department. Perform all grounds related tasks including but not limited to: raking, weeding, sweeping, shoveling, plowing, etc.
- Support the activities of the Grounds Department, staff, other personnel, and contractors to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of campus grounds and facilities. Assist in the supervision of student workers and outside contractors.
- Support other Facilities Management departments to successively meet deadlines and support the Springfield College community and the college’s mission. Abide by all standards for safety and health guidelines, environmental regulations, quality, and productivity by following established policies and procedures.
- Maintain campus grounds free of trash and litter, occasionally responsible for campus wide trash, recycling collection.
- Perform other work and additional duties as assigned, including assisting other Facilities Management operations to complete assignments, perform seasonal tasks as needed, including but not limited to plowing, shoveling, clearing snow & ice from walks, stairs, pathways, fields, and roads, and being available for emergencies and scheduled “off-hour” work as needed- High School Diploma Required.
- Pesticide applicator or commercial license Required.
- Valid Driver's License Required.
- A minimum of 1 year of work-related experience Required.
A full motor vehicle/driving history report will be required as a part of the background check process.
Candidate’s driver history must be approved by the college's vehicle insurance carrier for operation of all college vehicles.- Demonstrate proper judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting.

- Must be able to work as a team member & effectively with other personnel including faculty, contractors, students.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including but not limited to walking around campus, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolds or platforms, lifting/carrying heavy objects and working in confined spaces.
- Willingness to perform other work as required by the department and Facilities Maintenance.
