The Grant Accountant and Compliance Manager supports the operations of Northwest Mississippi Community College by providing support to the grant writer and project directors on grant-related financial matters. This position plays a key role in monitoring and maintaining accurate accounting for grant funds, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines. The Grant Accountant and Compliance Manager must demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
- Experience working for a state or public education agency required
- Experience in grant management, government procurement, and compliance preferred
- Master’s degree preferred
- CPA preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support grant writer and project directors on grant-related financial matters, including budget status, allowability of costs, compliance with grant regulations, procurement, and proper accounting and reporting procedures.
- Ensure the college follows all applicable laws and regulations related to federal and state grants.
- Assist with preparation and review of journal entries, budget adjustments, and interfund transfers as they relate to grant accounting.
- Maintain accurate and timely financial records in accordance with GAAP and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Monitor, analyze, and reconcile grant accounts, including ensuring expenditures align with grant budgets, allowable cost principles, and reporting requirements.
- Prepares grant funds for year-end closing, audit preparation, and completion of auditor requests.
- Manage procurement and purchasing processes that use grant funds.
- Assist with asset management processes, including tagging, inventory reviews, and reconciliation of capital assets for all grant funds. Review accounting processes for compliance and recommend improvements for efficiency and internal controls regarding grant funding.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller or Vice President for Administration & Finance.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong interpersonal and excellent organizational and communication skills
- Possess the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
- Maintain an effective working relationship with college personnel, students and the community
- Must possess high level of attention to details and perform at high rate of accuracy
