This is a one-year term position with the opportunity to extend depending on program needs and budget. Candidates based in the United States, Latin America, Europe and the United Kingdom are preferred.

The Global Protect Communications Manager will join a team of creative, mission-driven communications and marketing professionals within the Global Marketing and Communications team. The GMC team operates at the heart of The Nature Conservancy's mission—supporting and leveraging global conservation work by providing focused communications strategies, top-tier media relations and promotions, and engaging content that targets select audiences with the power to change the future for people and nature. Embedded within the Global Protect Communications Team, the Communications Manager will develop and implement integrated communications plans to support and advance the strategic goals of the Protect program by building engagement, influencing conservation action, supporting fundraising, and raising awareness of goals with key audiences. The Communications Manager drives complex projects, partnering on communications strategy development and leading on implementation of a broad range of communications initiatives to advance innovative and large-scale global biodiversity conservation efforts to protect 30% of the planet. They will work directly with and under the direction of various leaders across global and regional teams. This position will report to the US-based Director of Communications for Global Protect.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Communications Manager for Global Protect will work toward meeting conservation and policy goals by developing, coordinating, and promoting communications materials and managing projects for communications initiatives, both through global channels and in partnership with regional marketing teams. They will serve as the lead liaison on various projects and programs with internal and external partners to advance specified outcomes for key Protect strategies, including Enduring Earth (Project Finance for Permanence) and Nature Bonds Projects. They will establish project goals, develop plans, budgets and schedules with input and buy-in from key stakeholders and team members, create compelling internal- and external-facing communications materials, and lead project teams to successfully achieve those goals in the most impactful and cost-effective manner possible. In doing so they ensure coordination between multiple TNC departments, TNC partners, vendors and donors, and work with appropriate team members to gain approval for key decisions.

The Communications Manager may work in close cooperation with any or all of the following: Conservancy senior leadership and staff, donors, trustees, Board of Directors members, vendors, targeted government and public agencies, Indigenous leaders and corporate and NGO partners. They will lead diverse activities, analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, project outcomes, and implement solutions to improve effectiveness.

Key responsibilities for the Global Protect Communications Manager include:

Deliver integrated communications strategies and plans, projects and assets that help advance TNC's position as a global leader in helping the world achieve the 30x30 goal, indeep collaboration with the Global Protect team, external affairs, Global Communications teams, as well as with priority regional and country teams and other programs from across the Conservancy. Duties will include:

  • Leading integrated communications plans that align with strategies around geographic-specific PFP/Enduring Earth, Nature Bonds projects and other Protect initiatives.

  • Elevating TNC's profile and recognition in innovative large-scale global conservation across diverse media outlets and communications platforms, with a special emphasis on digital strategy to advance organizational visibility.

  • Creating strategic communications plans designed to achieve specific results among targeted audiences to advance specific PFPs, Nature Bonds projects and other focused initiatives.

  • Identifying communications opportunities and risks.

  • Leading on the creation of critical communications materials such as key messaging, videos and written articles, social media content, press releases, and tools needed by Protect staff to advance objectives.

  • Providing communications support to country teams as needed.

  • Increasing TNC Global Protect visibility and impact at high profile global events, such as the UN Biodiversity Conference (CBD COP).

  • Other communications support as assigned by Director of Communications, Global Protect.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Work collaboratively and in consultation with communications and marketing colleagues across TNC to bring Global Protect content to life for targeted audiences.

  • Manage and serve as a team lead on high-profile Global Protect initiatives.

  • May supervise professional, administrative staff and/or agency support.

  • May serve as the communications lead for one or more program areas within Global Protect.

  • May be assigned to develop tailored social media plans for select Global Protect leaders, including on LinkedIn, and execute on those plans.

  • May be responsible for building and editing nature.org pages that feature Global protect work.

  • Manage assigned budget, evaluate results and develop recommendations for corrective strategies as needed.�

  • Responsibility and accountability for achieving project goals and objectives.

  • Resolve complex issues independently within program area and across multiple communications colleagues.

  • Opportunity to act independently within program goals.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and a minimum 7 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience developing, implementing, and measuring communication and engagement plans/strategies.

  • Experience writing, editing and proofreading messages for targeted audiences.

  • Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.

  • Experience implementing and managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.

  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaborative skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in developing and delivering digital media strategies and understanding of current social and digital media platforms, trends and consumer behaviors.

  • Experience in web page development and production.

  • Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups. �

  • Experience working on international teams, and across time zones.

  • Multilingual skills appreciated.

  • Excellent writing skills and high detail orientation.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and, occasionally, non-traditional hours.

  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.

  • Experience managing a budget.

  • Experience developing stakeholder networks.

  • Experience working within a large, matrixed organization.

  • Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.�

  • Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline.

  • Experience working with remote-located teams and/or supervisor(s)

Salary Information:

This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $69,275 – $103,785 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate's qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
