Job Title: Project Accountant

Job Description

The Project Accountant role sits within the Accounting/Finance job family and focuses on complex project accounting activities that support a technology consulting group. You will maintain a complete and accurate general ledger, oversee project-related billing and revenue processes, and ensure timely and accurate month-end close activities. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working with project financials, revenue recognition, and detailed reconciliations in a dynamic, client-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex accounting activities related to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger.
  • Support a technology consulting group by managing project-based accounting activities and financial reporting.
  • Handle revenue recognition for projects in accordance with established accounting policies and standards.
  • Manage standard labor costing and ensure accurate allocation of labor costs to projects.
  • Prepare and process project invoicing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with client agreements.
  • Apply customer payments accurately and promptly to the appropriate accounts and invoices.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
  • Prepare and post journal entries as part of daily and monthly accounting activities.
  • Lead or support month-end close responsibilities, including reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
  • Set up new projects in the accounting system, including defining project structures and financial parameters.
  • Create and maintain billing and revenue schedules to align with project milestones and contractual terms.
  • Set up new vendors in the system, ensuring complete and accurate information for payment processing.
  • Set up new clients in the system and maintain accurate client master data for billing and reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve accounting issues related to projects, billing, and payments.
  • Review and modify PDF documents as needed to support invoicing, documentation, and reporting processes.

Essential Skills

  • At least 7+ years of experience in accounting, with a strong focus on project accounting.
  • Proven experience with project accounting, including project setup, billing, and revenue recognition.
  • Strong in reconciliations, including balance sheet and project account reconciliations.
  • Hands-on experience preparing and posting journal entries.
  • Demonstrated experience with invoicing processes in a professional services or project-based environment.
  • Solid understanding of accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.
  • Ability to maintain and support a complete and accurate general ledger.
  • Medium-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including working with spreadsheets and data analysis.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, including frequent modification of PDF documents.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with Dynamics SL, Dynamics 365, or any large ERP system.
  • Strong in supporting a technology consulting or professional services environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all accounting and reporting activities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, particularly during month-end close and invoicing cycles.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • CPA certification is not required for this role.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role based in Texas, with a schedule of Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for a typical 8-hour workday. Month-end close and invoicing weeks may require some overtime to meet deadlines. The position follows a hybrid arrangement, with onsite presence required 2 days a week for 2 weeks each month, and remote work for the remaining time. You will work within a technology consulting group and use Excel and Adobe Acrobat as primary tools, along with a large ERP system such as Dynamics SL or Dynamics 365. The assignment is initially planned for approximately 4 months, with potential for conversion to a full-time role. The interview process consists of one virtual interview. The work setting is professional and collaborative, with a focus on accuracy, accountability, and timely delivery of financial information.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $56.00/hr.
