We’re looking for a skilled and motivated professional to lead and support our enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program. In this role, you’ll plan, organize, and guide GIS initiatives across the County while serving as our GIS Database Administrator.
You’ll help shape how GIS data is accessed, used, and structured, ensuring systems run smoothly and meet organizational needs. Day to day, you’ll provide technical leadership, oversee GIS and relational database operations, and support projects that align with County programs and policies.
This position also plays a key role in coordinating GIS activities, managing vendor partnerships, and leading system development efforts. You’ll chair the GIS Steering Committee, contribute to project planning, and supervise GIS team members, helping them succeed and grow.
In addition, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor to department staff on data management and best practices, while taking on other responsibilities as needed to support the team and organization.

It is the employer's discretion to add or change the duties or requirements of this position at any time.- Manages a complex multi-user GIS computing environment; confers and coordinates with user organizations and GIS personnel to determine user needs; Coordinates design and enforcement of GIS standards and operating procedures;
- Oversees GIS operations; supervises directly, or through GIS staff, all activity associated with implementation, operation, and enhancement of the GIS;
- Oversees and coordinates partnerships with other government organizations and the private sector for GIS development and operation; Coordinates contracts for all aspects of GIS;
- Manages application and other development activities related to County GIS and Database management;
- Prepares annual budget for GIS operations, capital expenditures, and professional services;
- Develops and manages project schedules and work programs to support County-wide Database and GIS operations;
- Designs and defines the County’s GIS data architecture and data warehouse; Develops and defines standards, policies, and procedures for GISdata use, integration, replication and physical requirements;
- Assists departments with acquisition, and ensures compliance with County standards; Manages data exchange between enterprise and departmental systems; and,
- Works with Network Analyst to ensure the availability of County Databases and GIS data via the NOC.
Education:Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in GIS, information technology, computer science, geography, or related field.Experience:Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in GIS system design, operation, and management or applied research.Knowledge/Skills:Practical knowledge of spatial data structure, automated mapping, spatial information processing methods and their applications. Knowledge of enterprise database management and GIS architecture; ability to plan, organize and manage the programs and activities of a personnel team in design, operation and implementation; effective project management skill; ability to translate technical concepts and terminology in terms understandable to the public, elected officials and agency heads; must be able to make decisions based on factual data and to evaluate progress or success of computerized projects and systems; ability to establish and maintain liaisons with other agencies, public officials and employees.; and, able to communicate effectively through oral and written communication skills, including technical writing skills.Physical Demands:
Walking, talking, stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, and gripping. Incumbent may be required move and lift up to 35 lbs. (files, equipment, etc.) for limited periods of time; position requires the ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
