General Surgery NP/PA – McLeod Surgical Associates

McLeod Health is seeking a dedicated and motivated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our growing General Surgery team at McLeod Surgical Associates. General Surgery is a specialty focused on abdominal procedures involving the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, and in some cases the thyroid gland. It also includes treatment of conditions related to the skin, breast, soft tissue, and hernias. Our specialized surgical team guides patients through every step of their care journey. This role provides the opportunity to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered surgical care within a well‑established practice supported by a collaborative team of physicians, APPs, and clinical staff.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive General Surgery care across inpatient and outpatient settings, including postoperative management, daily rounding, consults, and clinic visits.
  • Collaborate closely with supervising physician Craig Selander, MD – General Surgery, supporting a busy and expanding surgical service line.
  • Team Composition: Work within a robust surgical group that includes 5 physicians, 5 APPs, and 25 support staff, including clinical and front‑office personnel.
  • Work Schedule:
    • Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM.
      Patient Mix:
      Inpatient care: 40%
      Outpatient care: 60%
  • Daily Patient Volume:
    • Varies based on inpatient rounding, consults, and outpatient clinic responsibilities.
  • Participate in a structured onboarding program, including system orientation, Epic training, one month of shadowing with an experienced APP, and gradual progression to independent patient care as competency increases.
  • Call Schedule: One weekend per month at McLeod Seacoast Hospital.

 

Qualifications:

  • New graduates accepted; general surgery, acute care, or hospital‑based experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to function efficiently in a fast‑paced clinical and inpatient environment while maintaining excellent patient rapport and communication.
  • Strong skills in clinical assessment, documentation, time management, and care coordination.
  • Commitment to providing patient‑centered, evidence‑based surgical care.
