In this hands-on role, you'll support the day-to-day operations of the Joint Administration Office by maintaining and repairing various fixtures and hardware, setting up meeting and event spaces, managing stockroom supplies, servicing Districts vehicles, and ensuring our work environments are clean, safe, and well-maintained. From minor plumbing repairs and office reconfigurations to parking lot logistics and routine vehicle checks, your work will vary daily.

NOTES:
  • The work schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm or 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with a possible rotation between the schedules. The schedule will be determined by the supervisor to meet the operational needs of the department.
  • There are currently two (2) vacancies located at the Joint Administration Office in Whittier.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:To perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks and manual labor primarily in a non-industrial type of facility.

  • Performs minor building maintenance and repair work (e.g., plumbing fixtures, hardware, office modifications) using hand and power tools (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, hammers, drills), basic plumbing equipment (e.g., plunger, drain snake), and established maintenance procedures to ensure facilities remain safe and functional.
  • Supports Districts operations by configuring spaces, setting up equipment, and assisting with logistical needs in line with established setup procedures to ensure timely readiness for meetings and events.
  • Maintains interior and exterior facility areas (e.g., sidewalks, drains, parking lots, restrooms) using custodial equipment, litter removal tools, and established cleaning procedures to ensure clean, sanitary, and hazard-free environments.
  • Moves, installs, and reconfigures office furniture, modular partitions, equipment, and supplies using work order information, material handling equipment (e.g., dollies, carts), and hand tools to ensure ongoing operations and workspace functionality.
  • Receives, stores, and issues stockroom materials (e.g., office supplies) using established procedures to support Districts operations.
  • Performs minor painting and surface maintenance tasks (e.g., curbs, rails, signage, waste receptacles) using brushes, rollers, and surface preparation tools to preserve facility appearance, visibility, and safety markings.
  • Places and removes parking lot control devices (e.g., chains, cones, barriers) to support facility operations (e.g., Board meetings, Districts-wide events, personnel selection processes).
  • Performs routine vehicle checks and minor servicing (e.g., fluids, batteries, tires) using basic automotive tools (e.g., wrenches, tire pressure gauges, air compressor, jacks) in accordance with established procedures to ensure Districts vehicles are properly maintained.
  • Documents and updates vehicle service information using manual logs and tracking systems to maintain accurate service records.
All applicants must possess:
  • A valid California Class C driver license
AND
  • GENERAL SERVICES WORKER II: One (1) year of experience as a General Services Worker I
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:The ideal candidate has experience in:
  • Building maintenance including plumbing, office modification and repair
  • Fleet vehicle maintenance including minor repairs and safety inspections
ForALL LEVELS, the competitive selection process may cover:

Knowledge of:
  • Stock handling practices
  • Basic concepts of equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Basic equipment and materials used in mechanical maintenance
  • Uses of basic hand and power tools
  • Basic safety considerations of mechanical maintenance work
  • Basic automotive servicing including fueling, checking batteries and oil, and changing tires
  • Safe driving practices and traffic laws
Ability to:
  • Lift and handle bulky items
  • Learn to use hand and power tools used to perform basic maintenance and mechanical adjustments
  • Utilize a computer and related equipment to maintain records, create work orders, procure merchandise, and perform other stockroom duties
Selection Process:
  • All applications will be reviewed to determine if the conditions and qualifications for testing are met.
  • The selection process will consist of a written test weighted at 50%, and an interview weighted at 50%.
  • Candidates must receive a qualifying score on each selection component to move forward in the selection process.
  • The written exam is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
  • The interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of April 20, 2026.
