General Manager (We will relocate the right person)

Bluebird Capital Fund
Billings, MT

About the Company

Sterling Roofing is a roofing and gutter company operating across two locations in Billings, MT and Greybull, WY. We are backed by Bluebird Capital, a private equity firm building a portfolio of best in class home services companies across the country. Sterling has strong market presence, a real customer base, and the backing of an organization with resources, systems, and serious growth ambitions.

We are open to relocating the right person!

We are looking for a General Manager who can own the business from the ground up. Not a figurehead. Not someone who manages from a desk. Someone who sells, who builds a team, who holds people accountable, and who treats this business like it is theirs because the compensation structure makes it partly theirs.

The Role

This is a ground level leadership role. You will be responsible for sales, team performance, operations, and financial results across both locations. You report directly to the COO of Bluebird Capital and have a direct line to ownership. You will be expected to bring energy, accountability, and a sales first mindset to everything you do.

Sales

•  Actively sell roofing and gutter jobs. This is not optional. The GM at Sterling sells.

•  Prospect, estimate, and close residential and commercial roofing and gutter projects

•  Build and maintain relationships with property managers, insurance adjusters, and repeat customers

•  Develop and grow the contractor and builder referral pipeline

•  Set and track weekly sales targets for yourself and the team and hold the number accountable

Operations

•  Own day-to-day operations across both the Billings and Greybull locations

•  Manage scheduling, production, crew deployment, and job completion from estimate to close

•  Ensure every job is completed on time, on budget, and to the quality standard that earns repeat business and referrals

•  Maintain job tracking and documentation in AccuLynx across both locations

◦  AccuLynx experience or roofing industry experience is required for this role. If you have not used AccuLynx, you need to have run roofing operations in a comparable FSM.

•  Manage materials procurement, vendor relationships, and supplier credit in coordination with the COO

•  Coordinate with the local admin on invoicing, payables, payroll calculation, and compliance

Team Leadership

•  Lead, manage, and hold accountable a team of field crew, sales reps, and support staff across both locations

•  Recruit, interview, and hire for open roles

•  Onboard and train new hires on company standards, systems, and expectations

•  Run weekly L10 meetings with your team using the EOS framework we are implementing across the portfolio

•  Coach underperforming team members directly and make the hard call when someone is not the right fit

•  Build a culture where accountability is the standard, not the exception

Financial Performance

•  Own the P&L. Revenue, gross margin, and EBITDA are your numbers.

•  Monitor job level profitability and catch margin leaks before they become trends

•  Manage ad spend in coordination with the COO and hold lead generation accountable to a cost-per-lead target

•  Approve location-level expenses within your authority and flag anything outside it to the COO

•  Work with the local admin and Senior Accountant to ensure books are current and payroll is submitted on time each cycle

Growth & Reporting

•  Participate in weekly check-ins with the COO to report on revenue, pipeline, team health, and open issues

•  Build out the gutter division alongside the roofing core as the business grows

•  Identify and execute on opportunities to expand market share in the Billings and Greybull markets

•  Contribute to the overall Bluebird portfolio growth strategy as a senior operator in the network

Must Have

•  5 or more years of leadership or management experience in roofing, construction, or a comparable home services trade

•  Hands on roofing experience. You need to understand the trade, the materials, the estimating process, and the job cycle.

•  AccuLynx experience or equivalent roofing FSM experience. If you have run roofing operations at scale, you know these tools.

•  A proven sales track record. You have personally sold roofing or similar projects and can go close a deal today if needed.

•  Experience managing crews in the field. You know what good looks like on a job site and you hold people to it.

•  Financial literacy at the business level. You can read a P&L, understand margins, and know when a job is going the wrong direction before it is too late.

Strong Plus

•  Experience managing multiple locations or crews across different geographies

•  Background in hail or storm damage roofing. The Billings market has a strong storm component.

•  Prior experience with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) or structured meeting and accountability frameworks

•  Existing relationships in the Billings construction or insurance adjuster community

The Person

•  You are a seller first. You do not wait for leads to come to you.

•  You hold people accountable without making it personal. Your team respects you because you lead from the front.

•  You thrive in an environment with high expectations and real autonomy. You do not need to be managed.

•  You want equity-like upside. You want to be paid on what you build, not just what you show up for.

•  You are comfortable being accountable to a COO who is hands-on and expects data, not excuses.

Compensation

Compensation is structured to reward performance. The base is competitive. The real upside is in the profit distribution.

Locations: Billings, MT and Greybull, WY (physically present at both)

Reports To: COO, Bluebird Capital

Bonus Points

•  Experience scaling a roofing company through a period of rapid growth

•  Background in insurance claims, public adjuster relationships, or supplement writing

•  Track record of building a contractor or commercial referral channel from scratch

•  Experience managing seasonal crews and navigating the workforce challenges that come with weather-driven demand
