Job Title: General Laborer / Machine Operator Helper
Job Description

This role supports a metal manufacturing facility by assisting with machine operations, loading large metal pieces, and handling finished stamped metal products. You will work on a production line in a loud, hot environment, helping ensure products are safely and efficiently processed, packed, and staged on pallets across various shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with loading large metal pieces into manufacturing machines in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Help operate as a machine helper, supporting the machine operator with production tasks.
  • Place stamped metal parts onto pallets after processing, ensuring proper stacking and organization.
  • Perform basic packing and material handling duties, including loading and packing finished products.
  • Use basic measuring tools as needed to support production quality and accuracy.
  • Follow all safety procedures when handling heavy and sharp metal materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Work effectively in a loud, hot metal manufacturing environment for the full duration of the shift.
  • Collaborate with team members and follow instructions from supervisors to meet production goals.
  • Adhere to union and facility rules and guidelines while on the production floor.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to work safely in a loud, hot metal manufacturing environment.
  • Capability to handle heavy and sharp metal materials with a strong focus on safety.
  • Experience or comfort working as a general laborer in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to assist with loading large metal pieces into machines.
  • Ability to place and organize stamped metal products on pallets.
  • Basic skills in loading, packing, and working as a machine helper.
  • Ability to use basic measuring tools to support production tasks.
  • Willingness and ability to work assigned shifts, including 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift schedules.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience in metal manufacturing or working with metal products is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with production lines that make filters, fences, gratings, or similar metal products is a plus.
  • Comfort working in a unionized environment.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality across any assigned shift.

Work Environment

The role is based in a metal manufacturing facility that produces filters, fences, gratings, and other metal products. The environment is very loud, and employees must remain highly safety conscious while handling heavy and sharp metal materials. The facility is not temperature controlled, so it can be hot in the summer and colder in the winter. All employees are responsible for wearing steel-toed boots. The dress code requires jeans or pants with no holes and a long sleeve or short sleeve T-shirt. Multiple shifts are available. General schedules include 1st shift Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm, 2nd shift Monday through Friday from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and 3rd shift Monday through Friday from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. Additional lines operate with 2nd shift from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm and 3rd shift from 11:00 pm to 7:00 pm on one line, and 2nd shift from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm and 3rd shift from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am on another line. The workplace operates under union guidelines, and employees have the opportunity to become permanent with the union after 90 days.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Libertyville, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
