Job Title: General Laborer

Job Description

This role performs a variety of general labor duties in food production facilities that cook soups, broths, seasonings, and package pet food. You support production operations by assisting cooks, handling raw materials, moving packaged products, and maintaining an efficient, clean, and safe work area.

Responsibilities

  • Assist cooks in preparing and producing dog food, soups, broths, and seasonings according to established procedures.
  • Work in a hot production environment while safely handling equipment and materials.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds as an assistant cook to support cooking and mixing activities.
  • Bring raw materials and ingredients to assistant cooks to ensure continuous production flow.
  • Load and unload trucks with materials, ingredients, and finished products as needed.
  • Lift and move materials weighing 30 pounds or more frequently in case packer and loader/unloader duties.
  • Move racks of packaged soups and other finished products throughout the facility to designated locations.
  • Perform case packing duties, including sorting, packing, and preparing products for shipment or storage.
  • Work as a utility or “floater” team member, performing a combination of assistant cook, case packer, loader/unloader, and general labor tasks based on daily needs.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all safety, quality, and cleanliness standards at all times.
  • Support production line activities, including general labor, sorting, and basic food preparation tasks.
  • Maintain an organized work area and promptly report any issues with equipment, materials, or safety concerns.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to perform general labor tasks in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and frequently lift 30 pounds or more throughout the shift.
  • Experience or comfort with food preparation, food production, or similar hands-on work.
  • Ability to work safely in a hot, non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Willingness to work in multiple roles, including assistant cook, case packer, loader/unloader, and utility/floater.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Commitment to following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety guidelines.
  • Basic skills in mixing and batching ingredients according to directions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in food prep, food production, or food packaging is helpful.
  • Experience in general labor, production line work, or sorting is an asset.
  • Experience as a packer, loader, or utility worker in a manufacturing or warehouse environment is beneficial.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing tasks and support different areas of the facility as needed.
  • Comfort working around industrial food production equipment.

Work Environment

The work takes place in food production facilities that are not climate controlled, with typical temperatures around 75 degrees and periods of higher heat near cooking areas. You will work in a GMP-regulated environment that requires compliance with strict cleanliness and safety standards. Standard attire includes smocks, hairnets, and safety glasses, and additional protective equipment may be required depending on the task. The role is physically active, involving frequent lifting, carrying, and moving of materials and products around the facility, as well as time spent on or near production lines and loading areas.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Janesville, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $19.00/hr.
