Gas Turbine Rotor Engineer
JOB SUMMARY
A Gas Turbine Rotor Engineer designs, analyzes, and maintains rotating components—such as wheels, disks, and shafts—to ensure structural integrity, performance, and reliability. They perform FEA modeling, support manufacturing/repairs, conduct root-cause investigations (RCA), and ensure compliance with technical standards (e.g., ASME, ISO).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to the following:
- Design & Analysis: Perform structural, vibration, and thermal analysis of rotor components (disks, blades, spools, shafts) using tools like ANSYS.
- Clearance & Tolerance Management: Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure proper fits and clearances of assembled rotors to optimize efficiency and prevent rub conditions.
- Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with Materials, Operations, and Supply Chain during manufacturing to improve performance and manufacturability.
- Root Cause Investigation (RCA): Participate in FMEA and investigate failures to prevent recurrence.
- Field/Service Support: Perform site inspections, dimensional checks, and condition assessments to support maintenance planning, overhaul, and service life assessments.
- Documentation: Maintain technical drawings, design standards, and technical reports.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Typical Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Experience: 3–7+ years in turbomachinery, specifically focusing on gas turbine rotor design or repair.
- Tools: Proficient in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software (e.g., ANSYS) and CAD software (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks).
- Knowledge: Expertise in high-temperature materials, FEA, rotor dynamics, and GD&T.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills to lead third-party consultants and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of rotor.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (investment casting, machining).
- Excellent technical communication skills for interfacing with vendors and field service teams
