Program Overview

This immersive work experience program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the heart of the sports industry: Matchday Operations. Participants will work alongside the Minneapolis City Soccer Club front office to execute professional soccer events, developing the essential skills required to manage live stadium environments, high-volume retail, and fan relations.


Program Details
  • Dates: May – July 2026
  • Location: Augsburg University (Minneapolis, MN) and local retail/community sites.
  • Time Commitment: 10–15 hours per week (Primarily weekends and select weekday evenings).
  • Open To: * College students seeking degrees in Sports Management, Business, or Hospitality.
  • Recent graduates looking to build a resume in professional sports.


Core Focus Areas1. Event Logistics: Setup & Takedown
  • Responsibilities:
  • Execute pre-match field preparation, including signage placement, partner activations, and equipment staging.
  • Manage post-match breakdown and inventory storage to ensure the facility is returned to standard.
  • Coordinate with stadium staff to ensure all operational elements meet league standards.
  • Learning Objectives:
  • Master the logistics of "load-in/load-out" for professional sporting events.
  • Understand facility management and equipment safety protocols.


2. Fan Experience & Ticketing
  • Responsibilities:
  • Manage "Front of House" operations, including ticket scanning and gate entry flow.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for fans, resolving seating issues and providing stadium information.
  • Facilitate fan engagement activities and half-time promotions.
  • Learning Objectives:
  • Develop high-level customer service and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Learn the mechanics of digital ticketing systems and crowd flow management.


3. Merchandise & Retail Operations
  • Responsibilities:
  • Manage matchday merchandise pop-ups, including point-of-sale (POS) operations.
  • Assist with inventory tracking, restock, and visual merchandising to drive sales.
  • Engage with fans to promote club apparel and seasonal items.
  • Learning Objectives:
  • Understand the "Matchday Spend" and retail revenue drivers in sports.
  • Gain experience in inventory management and retail hospitality.


Program Requirements
  • Passion for Sport: A strong interest in the "behind-the-scenes" work that makes matchdays possible.
  • Communication: Ability to interact professionally with fans, staff, and club partners.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, outdoor, live-event environment.
  • Physical Ability: Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift/carry up to 20 pounds for setup and takedown.
  • Age: 18 years of age or older as of May 1, 2026.
  • Schedule: Consistent availability for home match dates is required.
