As part of The LINK, this position is responsible for operating public transit vehicles, including vans and buses, to transport passengers safely and efficiently to their destinations. This role requires working a variety of shifts and performing a mix of routine and non-routine tasks while following applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.

Drivers must be able to operate in all weather conditions, including inclement weather, and demonstrate strong judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Success in this role comes from the ability to adapt, think critically, and provide dependable service while maintaining a high level of professionalism and care for passengers.

  • Provide safe and reliable transportation to customers with excellent customer service;
  • Operate steering, braking, accelerating, and control components and safety drive bus;
  • Transport passengers to various locations up to 100 miles from Fairfield County, Ohio using electronic devices which provide the various locations;
  • Communicates with scheduler and dispatcher to determine needs and locations of passenger pick-up/drop-off sites;
  • Assist passengers including the elderly, disabled, and medically fragile customers both into and out of facilities and vehicles, as necessary;
  • Assist passengers with their packages as requested;
  • Secure, load and unload wheelchairs for passengers as necessary;
  • Perform pre and post trip inspections completely and accurately to record and report information, damage, and equipment condition;
  • Clean interior of vehicle daily;
  • Complete driver manifest and trip verification records daily;
  • Collect appropriate fares;
  • Answer questions and provide information to passengers, dispatcher, supervisors, coworkers;
  • Perform duties in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations and employer policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Successfully complete initial training program and retraining programs and classes as assigned;
  • Perform minor vehicle maintenance as necessary including topping off fluids, changing light bulbs, etc.;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required;
  • Attend monthly safety meetings.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with no suspensions, DUI, or more than 1 citation in the past 5 years;
  • Ability to operate van and passenger bus, wheelchair lift; electronic devices, as well as other equipment necessary to perform duties;
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality;
  • Ability to adhere to office policies and procedures;
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, specifically elderly, disabled or medically fragile individuals who may be upset, distraught, irate, emotionally, or mentally or otherwise unable to function within reasonable range of constructive behaviors;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to capably interact with co-workers, supervisors and other members of various departments and agencies to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction;
  • Must be able to pass and maintain a DOT physical and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and criminal background investigation.
The minimum work conditions for the position indicate that the individual is exposed to both inside and outside weather conditions with temperatures ranging below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees. Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous materials and chemicals.
