Full-time Temporary Visitor Assistant

As a Visitor Assistant, you will be one of the first employees to greet and welcome visitors from all over the world, and ensure they have a memorable, educational, and safe experience at the New England Aquarium. From the bustling penguin colony and the four-story Giant Ocean Tank teeming with tropical fish, to the Simons Theatre offering the most cinematic way imaginable to see astounding creatures from our blue planet, we are committed to making sure each visitor is delighted by their aquarium adventure.

This is a full-time, on-site, seasonal position. The schedule for this position will be one of the following: Sunday - Thursday, Tuesday - Saturday, or Friday – Monday plus Wednesday (Tuesday and Thursday off).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Demonstrate consistently high standards of customer service by interacting with our visitors and staff in a way that is professional, helpful, welcoming, and engaging.
  2. Scan tickets for entry into the Aquarium and the Simons Theatre while guiding visitors to amenities such as restrooms, elevators, dining options, maps, and presentation schedules.
  3. Greet visitors on the plaza, guide them to the correct location depending on their ticket type and/or membership status, and inform them of the next available time slot for entry on busy days.
  4. Enforce timed ticketing on busy days, assist visitors with the best locations in the area to wait for their ticketing time slot, and suggest other activities in the area when the Aquarium is sold out of tickets for the day.
  5. Calmly, courteously, and professionally respond to visitor concerns and complaints, take action to help resolve them, and refer to Lead Visitor Assistants and/or Associate Managers as needed.
  6. Answer questions about tickets and coupons for the Aquarium and the Simons Theatre, memberships, animals and exhibits, daily programs, general tourist information, and anything related to the Aquarium and the surrounding area.
  7. Greet school/tour groups to the Aquarium in an engaging and welcoming manner while informing chaperones of our rules and guidelines. Assist with group check-in by stamping hands and guiding group entry into the building.
  8. Perform other position-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Training and Experience

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum 6 months of job-related experience required.
  • Cashiering skills and experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Engaging and empathetic customer service skills.
  • Comfort with fast-paced, crowded environments.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and efficiently during rapidly changing or stressful situations.
  • Ability to stand for long hours in inclement weather.
