The Opportunity:

The Carpenter Hotel is looking for a Front Desk Agent who genuinely loves people and understands that great hospitality lives in the details. As the first and last impression of the hotel, you’ll set the tone for every guest experience, welcoming travelers like old friends and helping them feel right at home from the moment they arrive. This role is perfect for someone who’s calm under pressure, detail‑driven, and energized by a fast‑moving environment where no two days look the same.

A Front Desk Agent will exceed the expectations of all Bunkhouse guests in a multitude of tasks that include, but are not limited to, telephone operations, checking guests in and out, taking reservations, inventory control and concierge services. The concierge services may include the following: transportation, dining reservations, floral requests, amenity requests, grocery shopping, tee times, spa services, hiking, children’s programs, babysitting, water recreation, tennis, golf instruction, biking, goods offered (i.e. beverages, VIP packages, in-room amenities), special events and other areas as needed.


The person in this position must have good communication skills, the ability to resolve conflict and a thorough understanding of Bunkhouse policies. All Bunkhouse employees are expected to greet all guests in close proximity and make each feel important by providing a genuine welcome. Furthermore, they must develop and maintain the company’s culture, values and reputation in the public eye.

Opened in fall 2018, this South Austin hotel is one with its lush surroundings. Carpenter Hotel features a pool with a community deck and Q Hut pavilion. Each of its 93 rooms comes with a terrace. The hotel is nestled in an old pecan grove on the edge of Zilker Park in South Austin. It’s an easy walk to Lady Bird Lake, downtown, and central to everything worth doing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome guests with warmth, confidence, and a natural sense of hospitality
  • Handle check‑ins and check‑outs smoothly and accurately
  • Answer questions, offer recommendations, and share local knowledge that helps guests experience Austin like a local
  • Manage reservations, changes, and cancellations using hotel systems
  • Communicate closely with housekeeping and maintenance to ensure rooms are guest‑ready
  • Respond to guest needs and concerns with empathy and care, finding thoughtful solutions
  • Assist with night audit and daily financial procedures when needed
  • Keep the front desk organized, calm, and inviting
  • Answer phones and emails while balancing in‑person guest interactions
  • Ability to stand for an 8 hour shift
  • Spot opportunities to enhance a stay, whether that’s a room upgrade, a local tip, or an extra thoughtful touch
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED). College Degree preferred
  • Six (6) months related experience in hospitality or service industry
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
  • Ability to understand other computer programs (i.e. Property Management System)

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

  • Qualifications:

    • Prior hospitality or customer service experience is preferred, but a genuine love for hospitality is essential
    • Comfortable multitasking various hotel systems and willing to learn quickly
    • Clear communicator with strong attention to detail
    • Ability to stay composed and courteous in a busy, ever‑changing, sometimes stressful environment
    • You take pride in being reliable: on time, present, and ready to work every shift.
    • A team‑first mindset with pride in creating memorable stays that turn first‑time guests into lifelong regulars.
    • Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos and verbal instruction

    • Complete all shift checklist items

    • Check in and out all hotel guests in a confident, professional and personalized manner

    • Take hotel reservations accurately and efficiently

    • Assist in the development and implementation of special projects

    • Ensure immediate response is given to any and all guest comments and concerns and inform immediate supervisor of concerns and assist implementing corrective measure when necessary

    • Maintain a positive relationship with all employees and guests

    • Ensure all calls are answered in a courteous, professional and efficient manner
