Summary
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to instruct in the theory, computer skills, and operation of machine tools associated with the metal working industry. Employees in this classification perform instructional work. Position is responsible for teaching classes and instructing students; preparing lesson plans; preparing tests; evaluating work; and counseling and advising students. Perform related work as required.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Teaches classes: instruct students on use of shop and computer drafting, CAD/CAM machining equipment. (21-hour teaching load day and/or evening).
  • Supervises work experience activities; evaluates students’ work.
  • Prepares lesson plans and activities; writes course overviews and outlines.
  • Maintains shop equipment; machine repairs and general maintenance.
  • Determines need for and requisitions supplies; ensures proper storage and security of supplies; obtains quotes as needed.
  • Attends school-wide meetings; staff development conferences and workshops; attends faculty meetings.
  • Prepares attendance reports and administers attendance policy; Administrators and responds to annual evaluation report.
  • Averages grades and prepares student grade reports.
  • Counsels and advises students.
  • Recruits new students for programs.
  • Recruits and supervises part-time instructors.

Education Minimum: Diploma in Machining Technology.

Education Preferred: Associate’s degree in Machining Technology

Experience Minimum: Three (3) to five (5) years in the machining field with CNC programming and operation experience.

Experience Preferred:
  • Journeyman Tool and Die Maker, with 5-10 years’ experience CNC programming and operation
  • CMM / GD&T experience
  • Wire EDM experience
  • CAD Design / Solidworks
  • 3-5 years’ experience in manual Machining including milling, lathe, and surface grinding
  • Teaching in a classroom environment or supervisory experience
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend written material.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to properly write and format correspondence.

Mathematical Skills
  • Applicant must have a working knowledge of Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Any certifications or license a plus.

Computer Skills
  • Applicant must have basic computer and key boarding skills. Microsoft office knowledge a plus as this job will require the use of this software.
