Job Title: Lifeguard Coordinator -Full Time

Wage: $19 - $21 doe Status: F/T, schedule varies, 30-38 hours/week

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lifeguard Coordinator is responsible for working with the Swim Lessons Coordinator to assist the Associate Director and Director in supporting staff within all Aquatic programs and member services. This includes but is not limited toperforming the essential duties and responsibilities of a Lifeguard, Head Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Head Swim Instructor, and Lifeguard Instructor. Assuring safety of all pool participants, both members and non-members. Aiding Associate Director/ Director in scheduling staff and problem solving schedule changes/call outs. Leading lifeguard onboarding training, in-services, drills, and certification courses. Ensuring proper pool, spa and sauna maintenance and accurate, up to date log records. Must be able to demonstrate core values and thrive in an environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit community service organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
? All duties related to Head Lifeguard/Swim Instructor, assisting the Associate Director/Director in supervision of lifeguard and swim instructor staff including training, evaluating, and celebrating them.
? Set new staff up for success with consistent, timely onboarding training and orientations.
? Fulfill American Red Cross’s standard for 4 hours per month of Lifeguard In-service training for each working lifeguard by scheduling, organizing and executing in-service trainings.
? Assist Associate Director with putting out a monthly lifeguard schedule as well as help field and problem solve call outs and schedule changes.
? Ensure a safe environment for all members and non-members using any part of the aquatic facility.
? Work Lifeguard shifts as needed.
? Support Swim Lesson Coordinator by working Swim Instructor shifts as needed.
? Know and enforce emergency procedures and safety regulations in order to ensure participant safety.
? Assist Associate Director/ Director in maintaining the chemical balance of pool and spas, as well as, cleanliness of the Aquatic Facility and Locker rooms.
? Empower and train staff in chemical safety and testing to fulfill legally required chemical balance and information logging.
? Know and enforce all rules of sanitation and care of the pool as required by State Law and the YMCA.
? Communicate with other Lifeguards, Instructors, and Management on any potential concerns related to the operation of the pool and Aquatics programs.
? Recommend disciplinary measures of disorderly individuals; prepare incident reports as well as communicating with all direct supervisors.
? Provide assistance to participants, providing information on rules and programs in a helpful and positive manner.
? Identify potential hazards around the pool area that may be dangerous and correct or report to direct supervisors
? Understand the Aquatic Center Policy and Procedures manual, Employee Handbook, as well as all SOP’s and EAP’s, and sign off on familiarization of material.
? Adhere to Aquatics Department employee performance expectations.
? Adhere to the Mission of the YMCA at all times and implements the Core Values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into the swim lessons program.
? Smile and make connections with members and non-members.
? Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer first aid.
? Familiarize yourself with online programs such as Daxko, etc.
? Provide exceptional customer service to program participants and when called, help to find a solution that satisfies the participants.
? Disseminate Swimming Lessons Promotional Material when needed.
? Attend YMCA provided training.
? Perform other duties as assigned.
? Work with Swim Lesson Coordinator to Perform monthly maintenance checks of AED’s and First Aid Kits.
? Work with Swim Lesson Coordinator to create and post First Aid and CPR for public and staff course rosters every month in relation to the certification schedule.
? Use Daxko to check participant registration numbers and communicate to all Directors and Welcome Center which certification classes need closing and or rescheduling, etc.
? Schedule, Teach and attend Certification Courses for Lifeguarding, Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED, as well as, attend and assist the Director and other management team members with leading staff meetings as requested.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
? Minimum age is 18 years old
? Required – Certification in CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding and Lifeguard Instructing (Can be obtained at the YMCA)
? Required – Minimum six months experience lifeguarding
? Required - Minimum three month experience teaching swim lessons
? Preferred - Experience with working with children
? Preferred - Experience in a customer service role
? Preferred - Experience in a Supervisor or Manager role

? Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 75 pounds in weight and Adults of various sizes in need of care.
? Occasionally must be able to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
? Frequently may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
