Role Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Tools Designer to join our team on-site in the Greater Chicago Area. In this full-time role, the Tool Designer will oversee the design and development of tools and dies for metal fabrication processes. Daily responsibilities will include creating and reviewing tooling designs, enhancing metal forming processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize production efficiency. The ideal candidate will work closely with the in-house tool and die team to ensure the quality and functionality of tooling components and assist in troubleshooting and repairs when necessary.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, molds, and gauges using 2D/3D CAD software.
  • Develop detailed drawings and models, including part geometry, tolerances, and material specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers, tool makers, and production personnel to develop tooling solutions for new and existing products.
  • Analyze designs for manufacturability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage tooling projects from concept through completion, including scheduling and cost tracking.
  • Maintain and revise tooling drawings and documentation as designs are updated.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate materials and components for tooling applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling performance issues, recommending design improvements.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable safety standards and regulatory requirements.


Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Tool Design, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in tool design within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent) is required.
  • Strong knowledge of stamping, forming, or die-casting processes preferred.
  • Experience with metal forming and progressive dies is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
