JOB SUMMARY
The Foundry Technician is responsible for executing a range of tasks involved in the metal casting process, including core making, mold preparation, melting, pouring, shakeout, and surface finishing. This role is essential to ensuring high-quality castings through precision, safety, and collaboration in a manufacturing environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform daily operations in one or more of the following casting functions:
- Core making - form the internal surfaces of castings.
- Mold making - form the external surfaces of castings.
- Mold closing - assemble cores and molds into complete mold assemblies.
- Melting - prepare molten metal from scrap steel/raw materials, adjust chemistry and temperature.
- Pouring - transfer molten metal into mold cavities.
- Shakeout - remove core and mold sand from castings and reclaim sand.
- Casting cleaning - remove gates, risers, fins, and surface defects; abrasive blast surfaces; inspect and repair castings.
- Operate equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, and loaders as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area.
- Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.
- Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
FACILITY/GROUP SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support casting operations across various foundry departments.
- Assist with sand reclamation, pattern storage, and casting touch-ups as needed.
- Actively contribute to safe and efficient daily operations.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1+ years’ experience in 2 or more of the following: pattern shop/storage; core making; molding making; mold closing; induction melting; pouring; shakeout; abrasive blasting; gating & riser removal; grinding; casting inspection and touch-up preferred.
- On the job training Is available.
- 1+ years’ experience operating forklift; overhead crane; frontend loader preferred.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to pass a drug screen & background check.
- Must have corrected vision to 20/20.
- Willingness to work in environments with extreme temperatures, noise, dust, fumes, and moving equipment.
- Must possess general knowledge of industrial applications in a manufacturing setting.
- Must possess general knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
- Required to wear PPE including hard hat, gloves, face mask, and steel-toed boots.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Able to work well in a team environment as well as self-directed when working independently.
- Willingness to comply with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Ability to adapt and be cross-trained to learn all job duties.
- Ability to multitask in fast paced environment.
- Factory environment with large range in temperature changes.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks including walking, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching for extended periods of time.
