This position offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment within a mission-driven agency dedicated to serving children, youth and families across Washington State. The role is part of a highly engaged litigation management team that partners closely with programs across the agency, providing meaningful opportunities to influence processes, strengthen compliance, and support critical functions.

This is a flexible/hybrid position, with major work performed through telework. In-office presence may be required periodically to support training, team development, or to provide individualized coaching when needed. The Opportunity:

As the Discovery Unit Supervisor, you will lead, train, and manage a team supporting DCYF's litigation management functions. This role includes performing quality assurance activities, supporting training development and ensuring consistent, high-quality work.


You will be responsible for identifying, coordinating and ensuring the production of all information and records within DCYF's information and content management systems that are responsive to litigation-related requests. In this role, you will collaborate with program areas, leadership and legal partners across the agency to ensure timely, accurate and compliant responses while strengthening processes and mitigating risk. Some of what you will do:

  • Provide effective leadership and direction to the DCYF Litigation Management team, ensuring work is performed with professionalism and consistency.
  • Ensure established processes are followed for handling litigation related records requests, including adherence to timelines, completeness standards and applicable court rules.
  • Deliver ongoing coaching and constructive feedback to staff to support performance and professional development.
  • Establish performance goals with employees and conduct annual evaluations in alignment with agency expectations.
  • Develop and implement measures to assess compliance with federal and state law, as well as DCYF policy related to litigation management.
  • Ensure litigation related records requests are accurately documented and tracked within standardized systems.
  • Oversee the identification, search, and collection of all responsive records, ensuring materials are preserved and maintained in an unredacted, unaltered state, including both hard copy and electronic formats.
  • Manage team workflow and monitor deadlines to ensure the timely and accurate production of records.
  • Engage with agency staff to perform guidance on litigation management.


Required Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of experience and education totaling five years in forms and records management, public disclosure, or other clerical duties associated with records/customer service. Previous Supervisor experience and information management experience may substitute for education.

OR

A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, social services, law, paralegal, or a related field AND three (3) years of experience in forms and records management, public disclosure, or other clerical duties associated with records/customer service.

OR

An Associate’s degree in business administration, accounting, social services, law, paralegal, or a related field AND four (4) years of experience in forms and records management, public disclosure, or other clerical duties associated with records/customer service.

AND

  1. The ability to take action to learn and grow.
  2. The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.


In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:

  • Previous professional experience, along with demonstrated knowledge of Washington state and federal requirements related to records disclosure and discovery.
  • Previous working knowledge of DCYF programs, services and associated records.
  • Previous professional experience, including knowledge and familiarity with identification and production of electronically stored information (ESI).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in complying with federal and state laws and requirements related to public disclosure, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects and complete priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in a supervisory role demonstrating effective leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience planning, directing, and overseeing the work of others to ensure alignment with program goals and objectives.
  • Strong ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it clearly using effective tools, technology and visualization tools with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and delivering information to large groups, including facilitating training presentations.
  • Experience analyzing public policy and legislative processes.
  • Ability to quickly learn and proficiently use computer equipment, general office software, and specialized systems to perform assigned duties.
