Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Head Football Coach or designee, the Student Manager will assist with all managerial aspects of the program including, preparation of practice/game facilities and equipment, filming during practices, and assistance with team functions. Demonstrate effective organizational skills and time management. Must demonstrate a positive and professional working attitude and maintain a collaborative working relationship with the coaching staff, team members, support staff, administrators in the UH Athletics Department and other individuals associated with the UH Football program.

  1. Responsible for preparation of video equipment for practices / games for the UH Football team.
  2. Assist with practice footage editing and opponent scout video exchange, electronic player video distribution.
  3. Assist with troubleshooting hardware and/ or software problems, projectors, desktop/ laptops, TV, media players, device remote controls, etc.
  4. Attend all team practices, home games and away games depending on availability and performance. .
  5. Be available prior, during, and after practices and competitions as assigned.
  6. Be available to travel to away games as assigned.
  7. Comply with UH Football Team guidelines.
  8. Maintain confidentiality with office work and all aspects of the program.
  9. Know, recognize and comply with laws, policies rules and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA. Immediately advise the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students, or others have occurred or will occur.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

CRITERIA FOR TEAM MANAGER:

Per NCAA Bylaw 11.01.7 Manager: A manager is an individual who performs traditional managerial duties (e.g., equipment, laundry, hydration) and meet the following additional criteria:

  • The individual shall be a full-time undergraduate (12 credits at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM)) or graduate student (8 credits at UHM) (see Bylaws 14.2.2 and14.2.2.1.4), except that during his or her final semester or quarter of a degree program, he or she may be enrolled in less than a full-time program of studies, provided he or she is carrying (for credit) the courses necessary to complete the degree requirements;
  • The individual may participate in limited on-court or on-field activities during practice (e.g., assist with drills, throw batting practice) or competition (e.g., assist with warm-up activities) involving student-athletes on a regular basis;
  • The individual shall not provide instruction to student-athletes;
  • The individual shall not participate in countable athletically related activities (e.g., practice player) except as permitted in Bylaw 11.01.7-(b);
  • In baseball, the individual shall forfeit any remaining eligibility in the sport at the institution at which the individual serves as a manager.
  • An undergraduate team manager must maintain a minimum semester and cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or above and complete a minimum of 12 credits each semester.
  • A graduate team manager may be allowed to be a manager for two (2) years only. Graduate Manager must maintain a minimum semester and cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Benefits: Maximum amount a team manager (undergraduate or graduate student) may receive will be 100 Percent (100%) of undergraduate resident tuition or 100 Percent (100%) of the individual’s tuition cost (whichever is less). Tuition does not include payment for Outreach College extension courses. Team Managers will be responsible for payment to Outreach College. Tuition payment will be prorated if the start date and completion of all required paperwork is after the first day of classes.

6 Fall Semester. Appointment is subject to changes due to funding and departmental assessment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Full-time student at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with football.
  • Able to work outdoors.
  • Some experience in a video environment.
  • Knowledge of football editing software such as XOS Digital (Preferred), XOS Thunder Cloud, DVSport, Hudl, Adobe Premiere or comparable software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Software Updates.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage time wisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and travel
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certification by the employment start date.
  • Computer, cell phone, and social media technology competency.
