Duties and Responsibilities of SHIRE Teachers

  1. Teachers will co-plan the curriculum with CSEO post-doctoral fellow scientists and maintain continuity within the current ISR curriculum implemented during the academic year.  Teachers will execute the developed curriculum as co-planned with the CSEO, as follows:
  2. Submit lesson plans and materials lists based on communicated deadlines.
  3. Teach the group of students enrolled in class for the duration of the session. 
  4. Collaborate with CSEO post-doctoral fellows to support classroom logistics, support for students, and group dynamics.

  5. Understand and implement policies and procedures related to protection of minors. This includes successfully completing online training provided by VU for working with minors and ensuring that effective student supervision is maintained at all times and according to program location rules, in part but not limited to ensuring that at least one teacher is present within the SHIRE program at all times. 

  6. Provide student assessments, grades based on those assessments, and feedback on the assessments throughout the program, culminating in end-of-program grades to be sent to MNPS  
  7. Adhere to institutional policies related to confidentiality. 

 

Qualifications:

Qualified applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, be certified to teach secondary STEM classes in the State of Tennessee and have content expertise. Preference is given to current MNPS teachers working with the Interdisciplinary Science and Research (ISR) program. Teaching experience and/or experience working with advanced students is preferred.
