Join the City of Medford’s Fleet Maintenance team as a Fleet Services Mechanic and put your skills to work supporting the vehicles and equipment that keep our community moving. In this role, you’ll work on a wide variety of fleet vehicles, from light-duty trucks to heavy equipment, using modern tools to diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical and electronic systems.

Required Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
- Three (3) or more years of experience as a mechanic in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, light and heavy trucks, and light and heavy equipment; and
- Possession of the following licenses within six (6) months of hire:
- Air Conditioning Recovery License.
- Class A Oregon Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with air brake endorsement
Preferred Qualifications:- Possession of certification through one or all the following:
- ASE in automotive or Heavy truck
- EVT certification in Police, Fire Apparatus, or Ambulance
- ODE
- Fabrication experience
- Vehicle upfitting experience
Available Schedules:
- Standard schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day
- Alternative schedule may be available: Monday - Thursday, 4/10 schedule, based on operational needs

The anticipated hiring range for theFleet Services Mechanicposition is $$32.18(first step) to $33.78or $35.47(second or third step).The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, andqualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act.Sixsteps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.Healthcare Benefits:- Medical, vision and dental benefits for employee and family, paid at 100% by the City with the opportunity to buy-up to a lower deductible plan

Essential Functions of the Position:- Performs preventive maintenance and services to ensure vehicles are safe and operational for use, which may include:
- Equipment and vehicle safety inspections, annual NFPA inspections, brake system, electrical system, and suspension system inspections. Check engine and transmission for proper operation, etc.
- Repairing deficiencies found during PM service to return vehicle to operating condition
- Perform lube and oil filter changes on all systems in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and as guided by department policy.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot reported issues, performing repairs on various systems, engines, and equipment, which may include repairing electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems of vehicles, fire apparatus, forklifts, heavy trucks, mowing, agricultural, and other heavy equipment, etc.
- Maintaining instrumentation and gauges, gas and diesel engines, pumps, hose reels, lighting systems, air conditioning systems, transmission systems and tires.
- Accurately documents a variety of information related to mechanical maintenance and repairs.
- Ability to track time, parts, job notes, and inspection checklists in a computerized Fleet Management information system.
- Welds and fabricates parts and systems.
- The scope of the assigned area will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the Public Works Director.

They are motivated to maintain a fast pace and continue to produce even in exhausting circumstances.Work Environment & Physical Demands:This position will complete work primarily in a mechanic shop, which can be noisy and dusty. The job often requires working around hazards such as moving vehicle parts, exhaust fumes, and various chemicals, fluids, and oils. The work area can become cluttered if all tools and equipment are not properly stored when not in use. You may be exposed to extreme temperatures during different seasons, both indoors and outdoors. This position requires occasional work to be completed on the side of a roadway if a vehicle breaks down out in the field. The role is typically performed under the general supervision of a manager but requires the ability to work independently or as part of a team. The job involves consistent communication with coworkers. There is a possibility of interacting with the public.This job has significant and constant physical demands. You must be able to regularly lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds and stand and walk for long periods. The work also requires frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing to access and repair vehicles. You will use lifting equipment to help move heavier items, such as tires, that can weigh up to 500 pounds. You may also need to work in awkward positions. You must have dexterity and physical strength to operate both hand and power tools and have good vision to read gauges and inspect parts.
