Fleet Mechanic

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for performing diagnostics, maintenance, and minor electrical and mechanical repairs on passenger vehicles, UTVs, riding mowers, trailers and small engines.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position.   • Performs diagnostic inspections of passenger vehicles and equipment to identify mechanical or electrical issues
  • Executes minor repairs to mechanical and/or electrical systems on vehicles and equipment; coordinates offsite repairs or mechanical overhauls with vendors as needed
  • Conducts routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment including lubrication, oil and filter changes and tire rotations
  • Oversees parts, supply, and equipment inventory for vehicle fleet program; maintains organized work area
  • Communicates with department heads, Facilities Director and outside vendors on repair recommendations and timelines, major repair decisions, warranty work and rebuild projects; provides guidance on vehicle and equipment rotation/replacement
  • Maintains thorough and accurate records including services performed and general vehicle information; prepares reports of estimated parts and labor costs as requested
  • Operates equipment and vehicles for the removal of snow
  • Complies with all safety rules and regulations, according to Department policy
  • Maintain confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent AND three (3) years’ experience with vehicle and equipment routine maintenance procedures and repairs
    • Basic computer skills
    • Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver’s License, or equivalent
    • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
    • Welding experience is preferred, but not required
Special Working Conditions:
    • Work is performed in a maintenance facility and occasionally in an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather
    • Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs
    • This position is subject to random drug and alcohol screenings

Compensation:
  • Compensation for this position ranges from $37-$42/hour depending on training and experience.
