DOT Incentive!Additional $1/hour on top of Fleet Mechanic hourly rate for obtaining/possessing a valid Class A license.All Certificates, required licenses, and DMV reports must be submitted with application to be considered complete.Position Description:Under varying levels of supervision, the Fleet Mechanic performs a variety of work in maintenance and repair on County Road maintenance equipment, County vehicles, construction equipment; operates a variety of hand, power, and shop tools; maintains records of service.- Loads and unloads equipment and supplies.
- Inspects, evaluates, and tests equipment and vehicles; estimates time and material requirements; reads and interprets shop manuals and specifications; reviews and monitors completed work to ensure quality control standards are met.
- Drives vehicles and operates a wide variety of equipment, including a forklift, service trucks, hydraulic equipment, mechanic’s tools, electrical test equipment, lathes, tire removal machine, hand and power tools, welding tools, and other related equipment and tools, and ensures care and safety while using tools, vehicles and equipment.

Fleet Mechanic IIIAny combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Fleet Mechanic II: Two (2) years of experience in automotive and heavy equipment maintenance and repair, with broad exposure to a variety of trucks, diesels, specialized road equipment, and hydraulic systems. College-level coursework in the automotive maintenance and repair field is desired.
Fleet Mechanic III: Three (3) years of experience in automotive and heavy equipment maintenance and repair, with broad exposure to a variety of trucks, diesels, specialized road equipment, and hydraulic systems. College-level coursework in the automotive maintenance and repair field is desired.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
License & Special Requirements:- Requires incumbent to provide own set of basic mechanic tools
- Other certification(s) specific to functional area of assignment may be required.
Fleet Mechanic II: Must possess and maintain a valid California Class A driver’s license and submit current (within thirty (30) days) DMV Driving Record report and a current Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Certificate.
ORMust possess a valid California Class C driver’s license, submit current (within thirty (30) days) DMV Driving Record report, and must obtain a valid California Class A driver’s license within six (6) months from date of hire.
Fleet Mechanic III: Must possess and maintain a valid California Class A driver’s license.
The department is currently recruiting for one (1) vacancy.In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Fleet Mechanic II/III, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
