Description
The Sovereign Steel – Flatbed Tractor Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a commercial vehicle with open trailer. Furthermore, they will retrieve and deliver steel products to and from customers as dispatched.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture while upholding the company’s core values.
- Properly securing heavy, high-risk loads like steel beams and rebar using chains, binders, coil racks, and straps.
- Ensure safe and efficient delivery of materials to and from destination.
- Performing DOT-required pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment safety.
- Maintain accurate logs (ELDS), shipping papers, and reporting to dispatch.
- Report any truck and/or route issues or incidents to dispatch.
- Communicate with shipping and receiving staff during loading/unloading.
- Ensure that truck cab is kept clean and tidy at the end of each workday.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid Class-A CDL with a minimum of one year of professional driving experience.
- Current DOT Physical.
- Clean driving record.
- Prior experience operating a flatbed truck preferred but not required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to work a variable-hour schedule.
- Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to safely lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to sit for long periods, stand, walk, type, carry, kneel, ascend and descent stairs, and bend.
- Ability to work primarily indoors with occasional work outdoors in multiple types of weather / environmental conditions.
- Ability to complete truck inspections.
