Job Title: Structural Steel Fitter

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Structural Steel Fitter to join a fabrication team responsible for assembling and preparing steel components for construction projects. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints to understand fabrication drawings, layouts, and specifications.
• Layout and fit steel components by positioning, aligning, and securing steel parts for assembly and welding.
• Operate fabrication tools, including cutting torches, grinders, measuring instruments, and other shop equipment safely.
• Assist with welding preparation by performing tack welding and ensuring proper fit-up before final welds.
• Inspect assemblies to verify accuracy, alignment, and compliance with project requirements.
• Maintain safety standards by following OSHA and shop safety protocols, including proper use of PPE.
• Collaborate with team members, including welders, fabricators, and supervisors, to meet production goals.

Essential Skills

• Experience: 2–3 years in structural steel fitting or related fabrication work.
• Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of steel properties, cutting, fitting, and welding processes.
• Blueprint reading: Ability to interpret technical drawings and layouts accurately.
• Physical requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and work in varying shop conditions.
• Safety mindset: Commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
• Teamwork: Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bakersfield, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
