Position Summary

Under the direction of the senior leader, the Fit Truk Wellness Director provides leadership and management of wellness programming within After School Programs & Corporate Wellness Partnership and events. The Wellness Director manages member/program participant growth and retention through the development and execution of health and wellness programs to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding customer service to all Fit Truk participants.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and implement mobile fitness (small group training) plans for youth & adults participating in the YMCA Fit Truk. Lead and support wellness staff who may be facilitating the small group training to ensure high quality programming.
  2. Analyze, modify and adjust small group training plans based on the target audience. This may include middle school students, adults or active older adults. Ensure each time the Truk deploys there is a training plan in place ahead of the scheduled start time.
  3. Safely drive & deploy the YMCA Fit Truk adhering strictly to traffic laws and safety protocols including wearing seatbelt.
  4. Ensure all equipment on the Truk is in working order and that a vehicle check is completed before and after all training sessions.
  5. Ensure proper implementation of schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections. This may include scheduling time for set-up and tear down, outside of the scheduled event time.
  6. Identify and employ best practices in systems and technology to support effective management of the program. Utilize available technology, reporting tools and data that enhance participation and member retention. If a fee-based event is held, ensure proper payment has been received prior to participation.
  7. Coordinate and schedule vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs. Purchase equipment, parts and supplies approved by the purchase requisition process.
  8. Monitor daily operations to adhere to all YMCA of Central Florida health and safety standards and policies. Ensure all staff have current certifications and schedule safety certifications before they expire.
  9. Work collaboratively through the matrix model to expand our corporate wellness footprint in the Central Florida area. This may include scheduling and attending meetings with potential businesses, launching on-site training events and managing a calendar to ensure scheduling conflicts are avoided.
  10. Recruit, select, develop and retain appropriate skill depth level for the department. Supervise department staff. Support training and career succession plan for staff team.
  11. Work directly with the Vice President/Executive Director to plan and manage the program budget. Develop a fee based structure for member usage and corporate wellness through cross-collaboration with the VP of Membership and Programs.
  12. Promote the YMCA’s mission and values through active engagement with local communities.
  13. Ensure adherence to YMCA policies, including safety standards, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  14. Actively participate in Team meetings and initiatives.
  15. All other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age
  2. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; exercise science, wellness, fitness, sport management or related field of study preferred.
  3. Minimum 1-3 years of experience in wellness or customer service-related field preferred.
  4. Minimum 1 year of experience in staff supervision and leadership preferred.
  5. Ability to safely drive & deploy a commercial truck throughout the community
  6. Must have a clean driving record
  7. Previous customer service experience working in a health club, spa, or healthcare industry preferred
  8. CPR, First Aid, AED Certification preferred prior to hire. Must obtain within 60 days of hire
  9. Certified Personal Training Certification and/or approved specialized certification (EX: Certified TRX Instructor) required from one of the following: American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), American Council on Exercise (ACE), World Instructor Training Schools (WITS), International Sports Science Association (ISSA), National Personal Training Institute (NPTI), National Exercise Trainer Association (NETA), National Council on Strength and Fitness, Fit Tour, or a 4-year degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy. Must be current and in good standing.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  1. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed.
  2. Must be willing to work an on-call schedule rotation as required.
  3. Must be willing to travel within Central Florida. Must have a valid Florida driver license. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.
  4. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  5. May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee must be able to perform medium work.
  6. May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard, and other equipment
  7. Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and members’ well-being.
  8. Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction
  9. Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
  10. May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time including continuous physical endurance for thirty to sixty minutes of aerobic activity.
