On Line Design is currently looking for a full-time Field Technician to install, configure, and calibrate robotic systems and related machinery across the U.S. This role will be based out of Cincinnati, OH but will require heavy travel to client sites for up to 70% of the time, including the potential of travel for 4 weeks at a time.
In this role, you will install, configure, and calibrate robotic systems and machinery including conveyors, pneumatics, and sensors. You will also perform routine maintenance and preventative checks on robotic equipment and act as the interface at customer plants, providing a professional and solution oriented presence. You will need 2-10 years of experience and working knowledge of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley), robotics maintenance, and a strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and calibrate robotic systems and related machinery (conveyors, pneumatics, sensors, etc.).
- Program, troubleshoot, and support PLC systems, with specific focus on Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) platforms
- Perform routine maintenance and preventive checks on robotic equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, software, and process control issues in automation systems
- Read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams
- Monitor robotic systems for operational accuracy, performance, and safety compliance
- Collaborate with engineers and programmers to integrate or upgrade robotic systems
- Validate implementation of electrical and pneumatic devices to meet customer acceptance standards
- Calibrate, test, and troubleshoot control circuits, components, and instruments
- Maintain configuration control of PLC source code and assist in control solution development
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Train operators and technicians on basic robotic functions and safety protocols
- Serve as the on-site and remote technical support representative for equipment
- Act as the interface at customer plants, ensuring a professional and solution-focused presence
- Understand and gather customer needs to support retrofitting, upgrading, or refurbishing existing equipment
- Assist in defining the scope and strategy for automation projects in collaboration with internal teams
- Maintain detailed service records, repair logs, and maintenance schedules
- Report valuable technical insights from customer sites back to the technical community
- Support the Customer Service team in promoting spare parts sales during customer visits
Requirements
- Associate degree or technical certification in Robotics, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or a related field.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in robotics maintenance or automation systems preferred.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Familiarity with industrial robot brands such as FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa is a plus.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools, multimeters, and PLC interfaces.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or on-call shifts, if necessary.
- Ability to find root cause of a problem applying methodology
- Capable communicator who works well in a team environment, customer oriented
- Clear technical writing skills for machine operating instructions and controls documentation.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Comfortable working in industrial and manufacturing environments
- Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods
- Willingness to travel up to 70% of the time, including up to 4 weeks at a time.
