Job Description

The Field Service Millwright will split time between a clean, climate-controlled job shop and customer sites across the United States, rebuilding and repairing roll grinder and mill equipment. This role performs mechanical maintenance, assembly, welding, and fabrication work in the shop, and then travels out of state to complete mechanical rebuilds, installations, and service at customer facilities. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, blueprint reading, and troubleshooting skills, along with the ability to work independently, think critically, and consistently deliver high-quality work in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical maintenance, assembly, and rebuild work on roll grinder and mill equipment in a job shop environment.
  • Assemble, weld, fit, and fabricate components to rebuild and refurbish custom machinery and equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and use precision measuring tools to perform accurate rebuilds, repairs, and installations.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues on roll grinders, mills, and related industrial equipment to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.
  • Travel out of state approximately 50% of the time to perform mechanical rebuilds, repairs, and installations at customer locations.
  • Work on equipment and systems that may include hydraulics, pneumatics, and related mechanical components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and service work on industrial machinery to maximize reliability and uptime.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely and effectively to complete fabrication and repair tasks.
  • Follow safety procedures and adhere to legal regulations and guidelines at all times, both in the shop and at customer sites.
  • Collaborate with team members in the shop and in the field to plan work, coordinate travel, and complete projects on schedule.
  • Document work performed, including rebuilds, repairs, and parts used, to support accurate records and future maintenance.
  • Demonstrate a self-starting, go-getter mindset by taking ownership of assigned tasks and completing jobs in a timely and responsible manner.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, mechanical assembly, and rebuild work, preferably in an industrial or millwright setting.
  • Minimum of 2 years of welding experience, including the ability to weld, fit, and fabricate components.
  • Proven experience with mechanical maintenance and millwright work on roll grinders, mills, or similar heavy industrial equipment.
  • Strong mechanical assembly and troubleshooting skills for complex machinery and custom equipment.
  • Ability to travel out of state approximately 50% of the time to customer locations.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and using precision measuring tools for accurate assembly and rebuilds.
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial maintenance environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the roll grinder and mill industry or with metals and metals-forming equipment.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and service documentation for industrial machinery.
  • Exposure to construction, installation, and industrial maintenance projects at customer sites.
  • Comfort working with a wide variety of tools and shop equipment in a custom manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a tight-knit team and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Interest in professional growth, including potential advancement into expanded field service responsibilities.

Work Environment

The role is based in an industrial job shop and fabrication environment that manufactures and refurbishes custom machinery for metals and metals-forming industries. Work is performed in a clean, climate-controlled, and organized facility, alongside a team of approximately 185 employees across three facilities and shifts. The shop focuses on building custom machines and equipment to customer specifications and handling projects ranging from small specialty items to major capital expansions, including redesign and rebuild of existing equipment. Technologies and equipment include roll grinders, mills, transfer cars, transporters, meltshop equipment, slab and long product handling systems, strip and coil processing equipment, and other custom-designed machinery, along with associated automation, controls, and power systems. Travel is a regular part of the position, with assignments ranging from locations in Maine to Florida, Texas, California, and other regions. Team members typically drive with a crew for trips up to about 10 hours and fly for longer distances. The environment is tight knit and collaborative, with no history of layoffs and steady growth in headcount over recent years. The dress code consists of steel toe boots, a t-shirt, and jeans, suitable for a hands-on industrial maintenance and fabrication setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alliance, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $55.00/hr.
