Field Research Assistant (Summer Internship) – FOUR OPENINGS

Target Candidates:

Candidates currently in school seeking a summer job. Target schools include Wichita State University (WSU), WSU West, Friends University, Newman University, Bethel College, Tabor College, and Cowley College. Will review candidates from the Wichita/Maize area who attend KSU but would be back in the area for the summer.


SUMMER FIELD ASSISTANT

Currently hiring for multiple positions as a Summer Field Assistant in Maize, Kansas. The Maize location is a hub for the North American Field Testing and Product Development organization, specifically supporting crop breeding efforts. This position is a full-time seasonal opportunity with flexible start and end dates. Most applicants work early May through mid-August.


The Summer Field Assistant role will assist the Maize staff with planting, pollinating, harvesting, shipping, weeding, preparing fields, preparing seed, collecting plant samples, and other field activities related to crop production and product development. This role will assist in the maintenance and improvement of farms and assets, provide support for the safety program by adhering to all safety policies, contribute by carrying out all assigned support duties, and perform assigned tasks accurately. SFA’s must be able to function as a team member and accept daily directions from supervisors. Outdoor conditions cannot be controlled and therefore the worker will be exposed to uneven walking/working surfaces, dirt, insects, temperature variations, and sunlight.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Strictly follow operational policies and safety procedures
  • Be able to work outdoors and work extended hours as needed
  • Potentially lift up to 50 pounds
  • Function both within a team environment and be independently self-motivated
  • Speak, read, write, and understand English
  • Be at least 16 and possess a valid driver’s license, or have reliable transportation
  • Exhibit reliability, responsibility, good work ethics, and ability to follow basic instructions


Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • Agricultural knowledge or previous work experience
  • Ability to work flexible hours averaging 30–40 hours per week
  • Experience operating agricultural equipment
  • Experience recognizing and diagnosing equipment issues
  • Familiarity with technology, including drones, iOS devices, and Microsoft Office
