Position Title: Fiduciary Strategist / Business Development Officer

Location: Nashville, New York, District of Columbia, Atlanta, and other locations considered

Reports To: Director of Business Development


Position Summary

The Fiduciary Strategist / Business Development Officer plays a pivotal role in driving the growth and visibility of Wealth Advisors Trust Company trust services platform. This position combines relationship management, fiduciary expertise, and business development strategy to attract and support advisor, family office, and attorney partnerships nationwide.


The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of trust structures, estate planning strategies, and wealth transfer solutions, along with the ability to communicate the advantages of using a South Dakota-chartered trust company.


Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Relationship Management

·      Develop and manage strategic relationships with financial advisors, RIAs, law firms, CPAs, and family offices across the U.S.

·      Identify and cultivate new business opportunities for South Dakota situs trusts (Directed, Delegated, and Co-Trustee arrangements).

·      Present the benefits of South Dakota law—including asset protection, dynasty provisions, and tax advantages—to professional advisors and prospective clients.

·      Lead fiduciary strategy discussions to align trust structures with clients’ estate, tax, and succession goals.

·      Collaborate with internal trust advisors and other key fiduciary professionals to ensure seamless onboarding and administration for new relationships.


Fiduciary Strategy & Consulting

·      Act as an subject matter expert on trust design, governance, and risk mitigation strategies.

·      Support advisors in structuring directed and delegated trust relationships compliant with fiduciary best practices.

·      Stay current on evolving South Dakota trust statutes and national fiduciary trends to maintain thought leadership in marketing and educational materials.

·      Participate in trust reviews, committee discussions, and client meetings to provide advanced technical support.


Marketing & Outreach

·      Represent the trust company at industry conferences, webinars, and professional events.

·      Contribute to trust education initiatives—whitepapers, presentations, and advisor training sessions.

·      Work with marketing and executive teams to refine key messaging and develop content demonstrating the firm’s fiduciary and jurisdictional advantages.


Qualifications

·      Bachelor’s degree required; JD, CFP®, CTFA, or other advanced credential preferred.

·      7–10 years of experience in trust services, private banking, or fiduciary business development.

·      Strong technical understanding of trust law, fiduciary governance, and advisor-driven trust structures (directed, delegated, administrative).

·      Proven success building referral networks with wealth advisors, estate planners, and family offices.

·      Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and written communication skills.

·      Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently in a high-growth environment.

·      Willingness to travel regionally and nationally for business development initiatives.
