This recruitment is being held to establish an open eligible list to fill current and future Extra Help Fee Station Attendant positions within the Waste & Recycling Agency. The eligible list established may be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications within the County of Orange.

OC WASTE & RECYCLING
OC Waste & Recycling (OCWR) is an organization dedicated to providing waste management services, protecting the environment, and promoting recycling in order to ensure a safe and healthy community for current and future generations. OCWR operates three active regional landfills, four household hazardous waste collection centers, monitors 20 closed landfills, and administers municipal solid waste collection, recycling and planning for County unincorporated areas. OCWR is a nationally renowned waste management department responsible for a network of sanitary landfills. THE OPPORTUNITY
OCWR is seeking a Fee Station Attendant to provide outstanding customer service, including communicating information on County of Orange policies and government regulations on refuse disposal, while performing cash handling duties at the active landfills. Fee Station Attendant duties include, but are not limited to:
- Collecting disposal fees through credit card, cash, check, or deferred payment transactions; issuing receipts; providing correct change; maintaining records of revenue; and preparing daily deposits
- Utilize electronic PoS (point-of-sale) systems
- Determining disposal fees based on weight, load category, and fee schedule
- Effectively track and categorize outbound organics materials
- Visually inspect refuse received and notify appropriate personnel of unacceptable materials
- Preparing received funds for deposit
- Direct traffic as needed
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES
The ideal candidate will have two (2) years of cash handling and customer service experience. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess professional work experience and/or knowledge in the following core competencies:

- Making accurate arithmetical calculations rapidly
- Ability to receive and disburse large amounts of cash with accuracy; accurately determine and issue correct change
- Completing work accurately, thoroughly, and neatly
- Understanding and following written and oral instructions
- Ability to understand and maintain files and other record systems
- Ability to learn and use common cashier and money counting software and devices
- Ability to maintain established department standards promptly by completing a volume of work.
Interpersonal Skills l Verbal Communication
- Reading, interpreting, and explaining regulations and policies to the public in person and over the phone.
- Fostering and maintaining positive and professional working relationships
Customer Focus l Conflict Resolution
- Ability to represent the department with customer service-oriented philosophy and in a courteous, diplomatic, and professional manner
- Ability to thoroughly and promptly respond to customer inquiries, evaluate and identify the best solution from several options, then follow through with appropriate actions and within the framework of established guidelines and procedures

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list.
Eligible ListOnce the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
