Utility Maintenance Mechanic (Night Shift)
We are working with a long-standing food manufacturing company that is looking for a skilled Utility Maintenance Mechanic in their Central NY facility. The Utility Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for performing full- breakdowns and rebuilds of the facility equipment as well as performing preventative maintenance. For this role you must have experience in utilities maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
Location: Syracuse, NY region
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair facility utility systems including boilers, steam distribution networks, compressed air systems, and water treatment equipment to ensure reliable operation of critical infrastructure supporting production processes.
- Carry out tasks by maintenance Shift Supervisor.
- Monitor and service refrigeration and ammonia cooling systems, including compressors, evaporators, condensers, and associated piping, ensuring proper temperatures.
- Perform maintenance on electrical distribution systems, lighting, emergency generators, and power transmission equipment, troubleshooting electrical issues and coordinating with electricians for complex repairs to maintain facility power reliability.
- Operate and maintain wastewater treatment systems, including biological treatment processes, clarifiers, and effluent monitoring equipment to ensure compliance with environmental discharge permits and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of HVAC systems, ventilation equipment, and building infrastructure including roofing, plumbing, and structural components to maintain sanitary conditions and regulatory compliance in food processing areas.
- Respond to emergency utility failures and equipment breakdowns on a 24/7 basis, performing immediate repairs and coordinating with external contractors when specialized services are required to restore critical utility services and minimize production impact.
- Maintain safety practices and regulations and notify the maintenance shift supervisor of any changes.
- Follow all Safety requirements, Housekeeping, LO/TO, Confined Space, and PPE, and engage in facility safety efforts.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- GED or High School diploma (Technical training or electrical/mechanical technician degree preferred).
- 3+ years’ experience within the mechanical field
- Experience with programmable logic controllers, instruments, and controls.
- Food Manufacturing experience in a plus.
- Experience working on manufacturing equipment as well as utilities (ammonia refrigeration a plus).
- Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments. Including the outside perimeter of the building.
- Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and move objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
