Facilities Groundskeeper (Seasonal)

The Facilities Groundskeeper is responsible for the upkeep, care, and maintenance of the Palmer Municipal Golf Course. This is a seasonal position that supports the Facilities Grounds Maintenance Foreman in carrying out daily operations. Work is typically performed manually or with the use of various tools and equipment. Duties vary depending on operational needs; however, most tasks are routine in nature and are completed according to established standards and guidelines. Assignments that fall outside of normal routines are provided through verbal or written instructions.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Facilities Groundskeeper is expected to safely operate a variety of light to moderate equipment, perform manual labor in varying weather conditions, and maintain the aesthetic and functional quality of the golf course.
  • Maintains golf course by mowing, trimming, top dressing, treating turf, maintenance of bunkers, hole changing, hedge trimming and general maintenance.
  • Operate golf course equipment.
  • Mows greens, tees, aprons and approaches to greens, roughs, and other areas of the golf course.
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of tools and equipment, and the safe operation of vehicles, tools and equipment.
  • Performs general cleanup of grounds by removing rocks, brush, debris and other materials; collects and disposes of litter and empties trash receptacles as needed.
  • Responsible for safe work practices and the use of personal protection equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Valid Alaska State Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Availability to work varying hours, including evenings and weekends as assigned.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of the golf game preferred.
  • Experience with point-of-sale systems and till reconciliation.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Customer service and retail experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team toward common goals.

Supervision Received:

General supervision is received from the Facilities Grounds Maintenance Foreman.

Supervision Exercised:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

External Visibility:

This position involves high contact with the public as well as other Municipal employees.

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee works primarily outdoors. Work involves operating equipment that may result in exposure to dust and moderate to high noise levels. Must be able to lift and move up to fifty pounds of materials and effectively operate vehicles, machinery and hand power tools. The Facilities Groundskeeper primarily works outdoors across the golf course, including fairways, greens, tees, practice areas, and landscaped surroundings such as flower beds, trees, and shrubs. Work also occurs around course pathways, signage, fences, benches, and other structures, as well as parking lots and rights-of-way that may be exposed to public traffic. The position may involve time in equipment storage areas, or indoor spaces for equipment upkeep, minor repairs, or painting. The Facilities Groundskeeper may be required to work evenings and/or weekends as assigned to support the operations of the golf course.
