The role of a Senior Traffic Signal Design Engineer is critical in effectively managing workloads between the Transportation & Infrastructure teams in WSP (US) and the GCC. The appointed candidate will be supporting the successful traffic signal design teams which are working on a wide variety of high-profile projects across the USA. WSP are looking for an experienced and ambitious traffic signal design engineer who will be expected to support the HOD in managing the workload of the junior member, support in training in including traffic engineering design, signal design, and ITS system design and become the first point of check for work being delivered by GCC. The contribution of the individual will ultimately be used to inform end client decisions, such as the construction of large-scale infrastructure to facilitate and wider economic growth.

•    Perform professional traffic engineering work and conduct investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
•    Develop and incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality or end-users, transportation vehicles/systems, and implement future-ready solutions with traffic engineering design standards.
•    Traffic Signal Design, Traffic Signal Communication Design, ITS Design
•    Signage, signals, pavement markings
•    Conduct the design process to ensure adherence with all codes, stakeholder requirements, and project-specific design standards.
•    Consult with US teams on the implementation of designer's project task orders.
•    Provide and coordinate technical responses to inquiries from contractors, tenants, consultants, and other regulatory agencies.
•    Lead the early identification of project design goals and work with Project Managers to guide design to meet those goals.
•    Assist with evaluation of change order requests, requests for information, and other change issues.
•    Coordinate with construction teams to provide technical guidance, address design-related issues, facilitate smooth project execution and ensure field changes compliance with design intent and project requirements.
•    Ensure final project deliverables (As-Builts & O&M Manuals) are delivered in a timely manner and meet project governance requirements.
•    Provide risk management feedback on all assigned projects during design and into construction.
•    Writing technical reports summarizing conclusions and recommendations.
•    The appointed candidate will be supporting the successful design teams which are working on a wide variety of high-profile multi-disciplinary projects in the US and internationally. They will be involved in the signals and intersection design and analysis.
•    There will also be opportunities to work with engineers across WSP US offices on signal design works, with potential for international work also.

There will also be the opportunity to travel to our US offices to work face to face with the US project teams as required.

•    Attend and contribute to team and project meetings; and
•    Complete accurate timesheets by set deadline.

Key Competencies/ Skills

Mandatory Skills
•    Knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, process, and design/build related to traffic control equipment, capacity and operational analysis, project management, and related communications systems;
•    Relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior traffic design experience
•    Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements;
•    Experience in managing whole or part of signal designing projects;
•    Experience with AutoCAD (including AutoTurn and GuideSign), Microstation, and other applicable design software packages (preferred);
•    Proficient with technical writing, spreadsheets, and tools; superior knowledge of traffic engineering standards and guidelines including the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), AASHTO Green Book, and AASHTO Roadside Design Guide;
•    Understanding of relevant software’s theories and limitations;
•    Ability to work as part of a team and to work under guidance; 
•    An understanding of the necessity to work within prescribed timeline and budget constraints;
•    Good understanding MS Office applications with focus on Word and Excel; and
•    Good written and spoken English.

Desired Skills
•    Knowledge of traffic engineering and planning software such as HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, ArcGIS;
•    Paper presented at / published in recognised national / internal journal(s)/ conference(s) will be highly desirable; and
•    US specific Professional License is preferred.
