The Position

The hours for this position are varied and include scheduled and on-call hours.
- Responds to emergency incidents within assigned district in accordance with minimum participation requirements - 30 % of calls.
- Participates in fire prevention and safety education activities as assigned.
- Participates in at least 80% of scheduled drills, and other required training activities, and meets minimum participation and competency verification requirements.
- Participates in station and apparatus maintenance activities.
- Serves on standby crew and/or duty crew if availalbe.
- Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned.
Need to have:- Certification of Firefighter I and II by the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board. IFSAC and/or ProBoard reciprocity must be confirmed prior to appointment.
- Certification of Hazardous Materials Operations by the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board. IFSAC and/or ProBoard reciprocity must be confirmed prior to appointment.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Minnesota Driver's License free of restrictions or suspensions and/or reckless driving behavior.
- Must be a Maple Grove resident or live within a 5 minute drive time (Approved by Fire Administration) to a Maple Grove Fire Station AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION. Check response time here: Response time map
Nice to have:- Experience in firefighting, rescue, EMS, or other public safety responder experience.
- Certified Emergency Medical Responder or higher, by the Minnesota Emergency Medical Service Board. Reciprocity must be confirmed or certification completion by the end of the probationary period.
- Advanced certification in firefighting, rescue, response to hazardous materials incidents, or in provision of emergency medical care.
PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTER TRAINING & CERTIFICATION REQUIERMENTSNeed to have at time of application to be considered probationary:- Certification of NFPA #1001 Firefighter I and II by the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board. IFSAC and/or ProBoard reciprocity must be confirmed prior to appointment.
- Certification of NFPA #1072 Hazardous Materials Operations by the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board. IFSAC and/or ProBoard reciprocity must be confirmed prior to appointment.
Additional certifications to be completed within the probationary period:- Certification of NFPA #1002 Fire Apparatus Operator by the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board. IFSAC and/or ProBoard reciprocity or certification completion before end of the probationary period.
- Certified Emergency Medical Responder or higher, by the Minnesota Emergency Medical Service Board. Reciprocity must be confirmed or certification completion by the end of the probationary period.
- National Incident Management System: 1. IS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS), 2. IS-200: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents, 3. IS-700: Introduction to the National Incident Management System, 4. IS-800: National Response Framework, An Introduction.
