Summary/Objective Design, develop, and install exhibits for interpretive centers, conservation areas, and statewide events to inform the public about Missouri's fish, forests, and wildlife.
Essential Job Duties - Create two-dimensional and three-dimensional exhibit designs and layouts for nature centers, regional offices, portable exhibits, and permanent wayside/wayfinding exhibit panels.
- Recommend and implement exhibit design techniques.
- Acquire appropriate photographs and graphics for exhibits and research, and edit content for exhibit panels.
- Prepare files for a variety of printing processes, including high-pressure laminate, ImageLOC, Lambda, direct print to varying substrates, and large-format in-house printers.
- Work with outside contractors and other MDC staff to ensure quality production of printed and fabricated exhibit elements.
- Contribute knowledge of exhibit design, construction, ADA standards, safety, etc. to planning meetings.
- Assist the Exhibits Supervisor in planning, running, and takedown of the Missouri State Fair, Eagle Days, and other statewide events and fairs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders from across all Branches within the Department to produce quality exhibits from planning and copywriting through design and fabrication.
- Prepare and send Request for Bid/Quote documents, manage the bid process, evaluate vendors, award contracts, and oversee contract compliance.
Ancillary Job Duties - Serve on internal and external regular and special committees.

Education and Experience - Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Non-Personal Interpretation, or related field.
- At least three (3) years of progressively responsible professional graphic design experience.
- Must maintain a current, valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge and ability to create production-ready exhibit graphics using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Design.
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines as they apply to exhibit design and spaces.
- Knowledge of exhibit design, construction, fabrication, installation, ADA standards, and safety, etc.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and communicate effectively and respectfully.
- Ability to research topics and develop Interpretive writing scripts for small projects exhibits preferred.
- Knowledge and ability to design three-dimensional exhibits, and present concept drawings using compuer-aided or traditional drafting techniques preferred.
Work Environment - Work may be performed outdoors where hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions are present.
- Occasionally exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.
Physical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position up to 70% of the time.
- Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Clarity of vision and three-dimensional vision- ability to judge distance and space relationships.
- Regularly lift up to 5 pounds, correctly lift up to 50 pounds.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Exemption Status/Special Notes
This position has been determined to be Exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy.
Salaried and hourly employees are expected to use a mobile device-cellular phone for Department business, as needed.
