Job Summary and Responsibilities

The exercise specialist is responsible, in coordination with the cardiac conditioning nurse, for routine operations of the cardiac-conditioning program. This responsibility includes facilitating the patient's functional progression by ensuring standards of exercise principles as individually prescribed according to specific cardiac diagnosis. This position is responsible for support of patient progress in a manner consistent with the existing and developing policies, and in accordance with the mission statement and philosophy of the sisters of mercy of auburn and catholic healthcare west.

As our Exercise Specialist - Lead, you will be responsible, in coordination with the cardiac conditioning nurse, for the routine operations of the cardiac-conditioning program.

Every day, you will facilitate the patient's functional progression by ensuring adherence to individually prescribed exercise principles according to specific cardiac diagnoses. You will be responsible for supporting patient progress consistent with existing policies and the organization's Mission and Philosophy. This includes guiding patients, monitoring responses, and adjusting programs for optimal outcomes. You may also perform administrative duties as needed.

To be successful in this role, you will possess relevant certification or degree in Exercise Physiology or a related field, with experience in cardiac rehabilitation. You will demonstrate exceptional understanding of exercise principles for cardiac patients, strong communication for instruction and motivation, and meticulous attention to detail in monitoring progress.

  • Offers education related to the cardiac disease process, medications affecting hemodynamics and exercise regime and lifestyle health behaviors.
  • Teaches coronary risk factor information to patients, family community and staff.
  • Integrates appropriate referral and counseling abilities into routine care of patients
  • Conducts recruitment of prospective program participants
  • Motivates patients to insure quality of results and patient satisfaction
  • Performs ongoing patient assessments regarding educational, physiological and emotional needs.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelors Of Science emphasis in exercise physiology or Bachelors Of Arts emphasis in exercise physiology or other equivalent degree.
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • Proficiency with cardiac telemetry monitoring essential. Familiarity with treatment for specific cardiac diagnoses. Proficiency with prescribing exercise for a variety of patient populations, both diseased and healthy.
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and assisting in lifting and positioning of patients, good manual and finger dexterity and good hand and eye coordination. Requires walking, bending and occasional standing for extensive periods of time. Requires some lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing, working in stressful or emergency situations and some exposure to communicable diseases. Must be able to demonstrate proper stretching techniques and use of aerobic exercise equipment.
