Production Associate
Full-Time Contractor (1099) | Los Angeles Based | Start Date: May 2026
ROLE OVERVIEW
MADCo. is a luxury event production and creative agency based in Los Angeles. We produce elevated events, experiences, and activations across the US and internationally. Our work is aesthetically precise, physically demanding, and commercially driven. No two days look the same.
This role exists for someone who is exceptionally organized, fast moving, and hungry to learn one of the most demanding creative industries from the inside. You will work directly alongside the founder and Chief of Staff, supporting production across all active events from pre-production through final strike.
This is not a desk job. It is not a 9 to 5. Some weeks follow general office hours and some require you to be onsite at 6am, lift equipment, troubleshoot in real time, and stay until the last vendor leaves. If that sounds overwhelming rather than energizing, this is not the right role for you.
WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT
This is not an in-office coordinator role. It is not a role for someone who needs a predictable schedule, a fully structured day.
We are looking for someone with a get it done mentality who takes ownership, figures things out, and does not wait to be told what to do next. If you have only worked in structured corporate environments with set hours and clear boundaries, this will be a significant adjustment.
We are also not looking for someone who has done everything before. We are looking for someone smart and capable enough to learn quickly, precise enough to catch details others miss, and driven enough to grow into a more senior production role over time.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The best way to describe the ideal candidate is someone who has already proven themselves in a fast-paced, high-standards, physically and mentally demanding environment. That might be someone who has assisted a wardrobe stylist, worked backstage in fashion or film, managed logistics for a demanding executive, worked in hospitality at a high level, or any other role where the stakes were real, the details mattered, and dropping the ball was not an option.
Large scale event production experience is a plus but not required. What is required is the kind of mind that naturally thinks in logistics, the kind of person who walks into a room and immediately starts calculating how it works, what is missing, and what could go wrong.
You are someone who:
EXPECTED AVAILABILITY
This is a retainer-based independent contractor role requiring consistent and substantial availability sufficient to meet production demands and client commitments. In-person presence is required for client meetings, site visits, walkthroughs, installations, load-ins, show days, and strikes. Availability must flex based on event schedules and production needs, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and domestic or international travel when required.
Onsite attendance is mandatory whenever production is active. This role requires flexibility for early mornings, late nights, weekends, and domestic or international travel based on event schedules.

COMPENSATION
Base Contractor Fee: $4,000 per month.
This is a 1099 independent contractor role. As a contractor operating through an LLC, many of your business expenses including vehicle use, phone, home office, and supplies are deductible. Contractors who perform well and grow into the role typically see their retainer reassessed within the first six to twelve months based on demonstrated ownership and studio growth.
Travel expenses for confirmed events are covered. Mileage reimbursement applies for travel to distant locations outside the greater Los Angeles area at the current IRS standard rate.
AVAILABILITY, TIMEOFF, AND TRAVEL
This role requires consistent availability Monday through Friday with flexibility based on production demands. Onsite attendance is mandatory for all active production days. Domestic travel is required approximately monthly. International travel may be required for certain events. Time-off requests are reviewed against the active event calendar and are not guaranteed during production periods.
Time-off requests must be submitted in advance and are reviewed based on the active event calendar, studio workload, and production demands. Approval is not guaranteed and is typically confirmed no earlier than approximately three weeks prior to the requested dates, as client events take priority.
Availability for confirmed client events is a core requirement of this role. Time off is planned around production schedules, not the reverse.
Holiday Availability: MADCo. events frequently occur during holiday windows. If a project is booked during a holiday period, availability is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
HOW TO APPLY
Applications that do not follow these instructions exactly will not be reviewed.
Step 1: Review MADCo.
Before applying, review recent MADCo. events at @melissaandre and @madco_studio and watch all episodes of #PerfectParties and #MADCoWORLD on YouTube at @MelissaAndreDesignCo. You should have a clear sense of the aesthetic, the scale, and the standard of work before you reach out.
Step 2: Written Response
In your own words, with no AI assistance, write a response to the following prompt and email it to jobs@melissaandre.com with the subject line: Production Associate Application.
Describe the most logistically complex thing you have ever planned, coordinated, or executed. It does not have to be an event. It can be anything. Walk us through what made it complex, what your specific role was, what went wrong, and how you handled it. Write this as you would write a professional email, not a cover letter.
This written response is the most important part of your application. It tells us how you think, how you communicate, and whether you are the kind of person who takes ownership. Responses that are clearly AI-generated, overly formal, or generic will not be reviewed.
Step 3: Resume
Attach your resume. It should clearly show where you have worked, what you were responsible for, and what the environment was like. We are less interested in job titles than in what you actually did and what was expected of you.
GROWTH PATH
MADCo. promotes from within. The Chief of Staff started in a junior support role. Candidates who demonstrate ownership, judgment, and the ability to operate at MADCo.'s standard have a clear path to growing into a senior production role with a significantly higher retainer. That growth is earned and it is real, but it takes time and it takes performance.
