Estimator – Tollway / Heavy Civil Construction

Position Summary:

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for tollway and heavy civil construction projects. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and other documentation to develop detailed bids, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and company objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents for tollway and roadway construction projects
• Perform quantity takeoffs and detailed cost analysis for labor, materials, and equipment
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids
• Prepare comprehensive estimates, budgets, and bid proposals
• Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies within estimates
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to validate scope and pricing
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market pricing, labor rates, and material costs
• Support value engineering efforts to optimize project costs
• Assist with bid submissions and post-bid reviews

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
• 3–7+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil, roadway, or tollway construction
• Strong understanding of DOT/IDOT and tollway project requirements
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar)
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with tollway, highway, or large infrastructure projects
• Familiarity with union labor environments
• Knowledge of local subcontractor and supplier markets
