Job Summary: As a Traffic Construction Estimator at LighthouseTG, you will play a pivotal role in our bidding process by developing precise, competitive cost estimates for traffic signal, roadway lighting, ITS, and related construction scopes. This involves analyzing project documents, performing detailed takeoffs, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver bids that balance profitability, constructability, and regulatory compliance. Ideal candidates thrive in a detail-oriented, fast-paced environment and bring expertise in traffic signal specific estimating to support our growing portfolio of public and private projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze bid documents, blueprints, specifications and special provisions to fully understand project requirements and scope.
- Conduct accurate quantity takeoffs for traffic signals, roadway lighting, and ITS elements, such as signals, conduit, wire, devices, and other related items. And temporary traffic signals.
- Estimate comprehensive costs including labor hours, equipment rentals, material procurement, subcontractor services, mobilization/demobilization, overhead, and contingencies.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate competitive quotes from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors for materials, rentals, and installation services.
- Prepare detailed bid proposals, cost breakdowns, schedules of values, and value engineering alternatives to optimize project costs and timelines.
- Collaborate with project managers, field superintendents, engineers, and operations teams to validate estimates, assess risks, and ensure feasibility.
- Perform pre-bid site investigations and post-bid reviews to refine assumptions, capture lessons learned and update historical cost databases for future accuracy.
- Support subcontractor and supplier bidding processes, including scope clarification and bid leveling.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, bid data, and vendor relationships to facilitate continuous improvement in estimating practices.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with public-sector bidding, including CDOT/municipal projects, prevailing wage/Davis-Bacon compliance, and e-bidding platforms.
- Minimum 0-1 year of hands-on estimating experience in highway/roadway construction or closely aligned heavy civil fields.
- Familiarity with MUTCD standards, CDOT (or equivalent state DOT) specifications, and typical TCP/MOT requirements for phased construction.
- Expertise with estimating and takeoff software/tools (e.g., Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Suite).
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and bidding authorities.
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
