Corporate & Investment Banking delivers a comprehensive suite of capital markets, banking, and financial products and services. A trusted partner to our clients, we provide corporate and transactional banking; commercial real estate lending and servicing; investment banking; equity; and fixed income solutions including sales, trading, and research capabilities to corporate, commercial real estate, government, and institutional clients across the globe.

In this position you will support the Senior Analyst covering the Biotechnology sector in Wells Fargo’s Healthcare Equity Research department using your skills from your Masters or PhD in Biology (Cell Biology, Molecular Genetics, Immunology, Biochemistry, Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology or other Life Sciences disciplines). 

Primary responsibilities include supporting senior management in both managing and conducting the fundamental equity research process for the purpose of providing differentiated industry and stock-specific content, including building and maintaining financial estimates and stock recommendations for our institutional investor client base. Critical to the role will be assisting in communicating research findings to both internal stakeholders and our external client base via consistent dialogue and live meetings. 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Creating, updating, and maintaining financial models
  • Writing company and industry notes and reports including regular earnings notes, and conducting fundamental research on key sector and company issues
  • Exposure to covered company/industry corporate executives and medical/scientific experts will be an integral part of the position

This position is subject to FINRA Background Screening Requirements, including successful completion and clearing of a background check. Internal transfers are subject to comply with 17 CRF 240.17f-2 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and FINRA Bylaws, Article III, Section 3, which states that Associated Persons should not be subject to statutory disqualification. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening and are required to report certain incidents.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: capital markets, investment banking or industry-specific sector; or a PhD in quantitative field such as mathematics, physics, or engineering obtained by date of hire; or MBA; or 6+ years of former military experience

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including high level of proficiency in modeling
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of accounting principles: in the capital markets industry
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial statement analysis
  • Strong, clear and concise written and oral communication skills


Other Desired Qualifications
  • 1+ years direct experience within the industry or equity research
  • Masters or PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, or other relevant scientific disciplines 
  • Strong analytic skills in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience using Factset, CapIQ, Bloomberg, and other data aggregation programs a plus
  • Financial modeling skills
  • Strong work ethic


Job Expectations

  • Registration for FINRA Series 63 (or 66) must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
  • Registration for Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted
  • Registration for FINRA Series 86 must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted
  • Registration for FINRA Series 87 must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted
