EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF SEWERAGE.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur.The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently operate a Medium Excavator (at least 40 hp & under 101 hp), and to perform minor maintenance and servicing of the assigned equipment in accordance to existing safety programs, work standards, and procedures. The operator will be required to inspect and maintain the equipment's tire inflation; oil levels; leaks (oil, fuel, water, etc.); coolant in radiator; lights and signal devices; clear and clean windows, lamp lenses, mirrors; and functioning windshield wipers. May also be required to operate all equipment assigned to lower level Equipment Operators, as well as all equipment assigned to the level of Equipment Operator III, as assigned by the department. Depending on the assigned vehicles, Equipment Operator III's may be required to possess a valid Louisiana Standard (Class E), Chauffeur's (Class D), or Commercial (Classes A, B, C) Driver's License in order to perform the tasks associated with the position. Performs related work as required. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.
The current vacancy requires driving of a Parish vehicle necessitating a Class A license, thus possession of a valid Class A driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.Meets ONE of the following three options:
1) Current employment with Jefferson Parish; plus, completion of the Medium/Large Excavator Safety Training Program or certification by an Appointing Authority that the applicant has been adequately trained to operate a Medium (or Large) Excavator (at least 40 hp).
2) Verifiable, satisfactory experience operating a Medium (or Large) Excavator (at least 40 hp).
3) Completion of an approved training course in operating a Medium (or Large) Excavator (at least 40 hp).
NOTE: Copies of licenses and certificates awarded for completion of training should be submitted with the application.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
Non-Competitive - All persons meeting the stated requirements on this announcement will be issued an Employment Eligibility letter for Medium Excavator - Equipment Operator III and have their names forwarded to appointing authority when vacancies arise.
