Job Description

The Manufacturing Equipment Technician performs preventive maintenance on production equipment, supports process validations and engineering trials, and serves as a key resource on the production floor for quality and equipment-related inquiries. This role champions safety and 5S standards, collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, and actively drives root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives within a regulated medical device manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance activities on production equipment, including component replacement, alignment calibration, and system diagnostics.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Maintenance teams for equipment escalations and ensure all maintenance documentation is completed accurately and on time.
  • Serve as the primary resource on the production floor for quality-related inquiries pertaining to equipment and processes.
  • Communicate effectively with Quality personnel and ensure production staff understand and follow established quality protocols.
  • Support Engineering teams in executing process validations, tooling qualifications, and design changes by providing practical production floor insights.
  • Champion and enforce adherence to safety guidelines, QSR requirements, ISO standards, and 5S housekeeping practices.
  • Take a leadership role in 5S initiatives to maintain organized, clean, and efficient workspaces.
  • Collaborate with Production Supervisors, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to meet production and yield goals and resolve production challenges.
  • Ensure continuous alignment between production operations and quality objectives through regular cross-functional communication.
  • Lead or participate in root cause investigations for recurring process or quality issues and document findings as required.
  • Propose and support the implementation of continuous improvement projects that enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and yield.
  • Install and validate equipment and processes in the production area following established validation procedures to improve yield and reduce cycle time.
  • Evaluate operating data and perform on-line adjustments to products, instruments, or equipment to maintain optimal performance.
  • Develop or revise documents, procedures, and work instructions related to production processes and equipment as needed.
  • Certify manufacturing associates in production processes, ensuring they are trained and qualified to perform their tasks.
  • Evaluate and recommend necessary equipment, tools, and fixtures to support production needs and process improvements.
  • Initiate purchase orders for equipment, tools, and fixtures and create or support document change orders.
  • Observe and comply with all safety rules, regulations, and applicable QSR and ISO standards at all times.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of technician experience, including hands-on equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining and troubleshooting production equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma, vocational education, or technical education/certification.
  • Experience working in the medical device industry or a similarly regulated environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cleanroom environment and follow cleanroom protocols.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Understanding of laboratory practices relevant to regulated manufacturing settings.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on production devices and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing maintenance and quality documentation.
  • Ability to interpret operating data and make appropriate on-line adjustments to equipment or processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with device maintenance and equipment support in a medical device cleanroom environment.
  • Exposure to QSR and ISO standards in a regulated manufacturing setting.
  • Experience participating in or supporting process validations, tooling qualifications, and design changes.
  • Root Cause Analysis

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Production, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills to explain quality protocols and equipment issues to production staff.

Work Environment

This role is based in a cleanroom production environment within a regulated medical device facility. The position operates on a third shift schedule from approximately 9:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Training is provided on first shift (approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) or an optional swing shift (approximately 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.) for the first two weeks. Work involves regular interaction with production equipment, tools, and fixtures, as well as close collaboration with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance teams. Team members follow cleanroom protocols, GMP and GDP requirements, and adhere to QSR and ISO standards while maintaining a safe, organized, and 5S-compliant workspace.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carlsbad, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.32 - $33.28/hr.
