Location: 100% (Remote)

Position Overview

  • The Senior Estimator will be responsible for developing high-level cost estimates for electrical infrastructure projects, primarily focused on HV line work initially, with increasing exposure to substation projects over time. This role works closely with engineering, planning, and construction teams to support early-stage project development where information is often limited. The ideal candidate brings strong EPC knowledge, a proactive mindset, and the ability to produce accurate conceptual estimates in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare high-level conceptual cost estimates based on limited and evolving project information; this role does not focus on detailed bid-level estimates.
  • Develop approximately 100–200 estimates per year, balancing speed and accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and planning teams, as well as construction project teams.
  • Work splits approximately 70% with construction project teams (Project Managers, Construction Managers, etc.)
  • 30% with engineering and planning groups
  • Initially support HV transmission line projects, which are smaller and more defined.
  • Gradually expand responsibilities to include substation estimating as experience and comfort level grow.
  • Utilize WinEst and Excel to develop, track, and refine estimates.
  • Provide estimating input to support project feasibility, budgeting, and early decision-making.
  • Proactively identify risks, assumptions, and cost drivers in early-stage project scopes.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience in electrical or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project delivery.
  • Experience producing conceptual or early-stage estimates with incomplete information.
  • Electrical background strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

Preferred Skills & Attributes

  • Experience with WinEst (preferred, but not required).
  • Strong proficiency in Excel.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and eager to learn new project scopes.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and manage a high volume of estimates.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and construction-focused teams.
  • Detail-oriented while maintaining a high-level, strategic view of project costs.
